Cherished family, friends, our community, and guest's who walked in as strangers and left as friends - we are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love & support during this trying time.
It has been such been a blessing to Wendi & Bruce. Something Wendi commented on frequently - often bringing her to tears; humbled by the love, care, support and generous gofundme donations.
We want to thank everyone who led thier support, their time, their energy, hard work at the Inn, and of course to those who came near and far for Wendi's celebration of life event on Saturday.

Yes - you can have this at home now, too. This Arnold Black Bear Inn Nut-crusted French Toast Recipe serves 6. Have you tried to make it yet?
Ingredients:
- 1 large loaf French bread (enough for 12 1-inch slices)
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup almonds
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 9 large eggs
- 1 cup half and half
- 1/3 cup French vanilla creamer 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Topping:
• blend all dry ingredients in a food processor until fine batter
• whisk eggs until smooth
• add half and half, vanilla creamer, and vanilla extract; whisk together until combined well
• slice French bread, approximately 1 inch thick
• dip in batter until bread is fully saturated
• dip in topping until coated on both sides
• cook on a generously buttered griddle (or fry pan) at a low-medium heat until golden brown on both sides, approximately 10-15 minutes (NOTE: make sure temperature is not too high, otherwise the brown sugar will burn)
• top with sliced bananas and sprinkle with powdered sugar

"Thank you for all of the RSVPs to Wendi's Celebration of Life on August 24th. We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and look forward to celebrating Wendi with you, Bruce and the families.
The specifics of the event are below:
When: Saturday, August 24th
Where: Arnold Black Bear Inn - 1343 Oak Cir. Arnold, California
3:00 - 4:00 pm - Celebration of Life Ceremony in the Meadow of Black Bear Inn
4:00 - 6:00 pm - Cocktail Reception to follow in the Meadow of the Black Bear Inn
6:00 - 10:00 pm - Transition to the backyard of the Inn for continued celebration and dancing with Wendi's historical playlists (food TBD)
If you are planning on attending and have not yet RSVP'd, we would appreciate an RSVP to Kristin Mensonides for a head count for catering.

7/8/2024 - "The month of June felt a bit like Groundhog Day for Wendi and Bruce. Wendi started the month by returning to the hospital from inpatient rehab and was admitted through the middle of the month. She returned to inpatient rehab for a few brief days and returned to the main hospital where she remains admitted right now.
The loop that she is in, and the care team is working very carefully to balance is managing a small bowel obstruction, abscess, continued infections, and nutritional tolerance as her body needs more time before another major surgery to intervene and correct.
The care team is working to get Wendi back to the inpatient rehab soon to help with regaining strength and mobility as well as making Wendi stronger for future surgery. In the interim, the hospital therapy teams are working with Wendi during the week.
Wendi passed her swallow test in the last few days. You have never seen someone happier to be able to drink water! She also celebrated with a milkshake!
Wendi has enjoyed phone conversations with her parents (Patt and Jeff) and a few friends lately. Her conversations with Patt and Jeff are getting longer and longer, much to everyone’s delight!
Thank you for the continued well wishes, prayers, and check-ins on Wendi & Bruce. They are so appreciated on this long road of recovery!"

It's NO SECRET you love this Gourmet Breakfast - and with a little time and effort, you can make this delicious breakfast right at home.
The Arnold Black Bear Inn Nut-crusted French Toast
Ingredients:
1 large loaf French bread (enough for 12, 1-inch slices)
1/2 cup bread crumbs

Following along Wendi’s rare Cancer fight? It’s been over 2 months since Wendi was unexpectedly hospitalized during Bruce & Wendi’s Florida vacation.

“Updates from Florida! - The big news from Florida is that Wendi’s trach was removed yesterday, and she is breathing easy on her own. This was a HUGE celebration and milestone for her to be able to transition to an inpatient rehab facility in Florida.
Wendi has been on a regular hospital floor receiving therapies but is now going through the process and approvals to move to an inpatient rehab where she would receive several hours of therapy each day (physical, occupational, and speech) to continue and advance her recovery.
We are crossing our fingers for approval for her to be taken outside with one of the therapies in the next few days – this would be an amazing lift to her spirits as she has not had fresh air or sunshine since March 22nd.
Pet therapy continues to be a big highlight when they come during the week.
While it is encouraging that Wendi is advancing and graduating to inpatient rehab, this comes with many emotions and apprehensions for Bruce and Wendi. Please send prayers, thoughts, and support for this time of transition and change as they prepare to move from one care team and hospital that has supported, cared for, and loved them for months, and move to another.
