Pictures don’t lie- why I use local flowers. They’re bigger they’re brighter. They’re seasonal and they adhere to mother earth‘s timeline. No one is harmed by harmful chemicals, local people are employed, and they are just plain beautiful. If you are interested in the environment, choose a Sustainable Florist.

Why don't you see more American grown roses in the marketplace?

Historically, trade agreements including the ATPDEA (Andean Trade Preferences and Drug Eradication Act) and the U.S. - Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement have put the interests of South American flower farmers before those of American flower and foliage farmers. In addition, the United States government has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to help grow the floral industries of other countries. For example, the U.S. government helped establish the Colombian floral industry as a way to combat the cultivation of illicit drugs.This has had a dramatic impact on the U.S. floral industry - in particular the domestic rose farmers. In 1990, there were 294 rose producers recorded with production of over $100,000 and now a little over 30 years later there are only 30.

Certified American Grown advocates for "fair trade agreements" not "free trade agreements," where the interests of all American workers and businesses come first! With your help and support of our local cut rose farmers, you will make sure the U.S.'s national flower continues to thrive domestically. The remaining larger rose farms continue to adapt and small to micro farm rose farms are emerging in almost every state.
