All kinds!

While the style may vary, a few things remain consistent:

1. We value quality over quantity. We will always recommend a single, intentional, impactful design over multiple less impactful and nondescript designs just to cover space. We believe impactful and sophisticated design more often than not, has nothing to do with volume.

2. No matter the style, our designs are high end yet approachable. We want your designs to feel sophisticated while also representing YOU! We want your celebration to be a personal experience we help create through flowers, leaving you a lifetime of memories.

3. Our floral designs are an expression of intentionality. Every element is chosen and placed with purpose, from the color palette to shape to texture to the quality of the blooms we use, every detail is important to crafting your unique designs.

At Ida Mayes, we don’t just design floral arrangements, we help craft experiences and create memories.

The sweetest little baby shower moments for Sydney.
It’s our last wedding week of the season and these intimate parties are bringing me so much enjoyment lately.

Summer in Texas is a bit too hot for weddings so we take this time to relax, prep for Fall, paint a little, and continue a bit of flowering through smaller projects and orders we don’t always have time for during the busy season.
Each summer seems to take on a different flavor of focus and I can’t wait to see what events and projects are in store this year.

This “bouquet” was a major labor of love. Alex wanted something artistic and unique, highlighting a single flower. Naturally we settled on orchids which are elegant, hardy and so versatile due to their shape and the ability to separate and reconfigure them into something completely different.

Alex gave me complete freedom to run with this sculptural arm bouquet idea and I am so grateful to her and proud of our finished piece.

What a joy it is finding new ways to transform flowers for our clients.

It’s been a whirlwind season and I have to say I loved it.
I’m so proud of myself and our team this season, from studio prep and design to our on-site and strike teams, every single person lent something truly invaluable to the success of each event and our overall season.

To say it takes a village may be an understatement. Aside from the many hands on our production teams, our families always take on a significant amount of the wedding season chaos, putting in extra home hours, picking up food for our team, running errands and most importantly, helping clean up post event.

Then we have flower friends, my little community of like-minded florists all in a similar season ready at a moments notice to lend a hand, a vase, a coffee or a kind word. This can be a bit of an isolating job, we get in our heads with too many hours alone with flowers as our only studio companions so the need to build your own support team of people who truly understand the daily flux, is vital to the longevity and success of this business.

Thank you to all our support teams in all the different phases of this little business of mine. I’m so grateful to you all.

I know I say it a lot but statement bar florals are my absolute favorite to design.

From urns to installs, the bar is one of the most seen and visited areas of your celebration. Every guest will see this piece up close and personal at some point throughout the evening so why not make it a show stopping moment for them to enjoy?

There’s lots of ways to save on your flowers, but when it comes to making a statement that your guests will enjoy, the bar is our number one recommendation for maximum experience building.

What’s a few blown over cocktail tables when it comes to love? 😂 The wind was fierce but our flowers held up with a few tricks up our sleeve.
This day is one of many that reminds me why it is so important to hire professionals with experience for your celebration. There are hundreds of ways for things to go wrong and we have hundreds of ideas to fix them all which comes from time, experience and a whole lot of knowing the importance of being over-prepared for any situation.

With 14 years of flowering experience I felt it was time to adjust our website to capture something different, a new iteration of Ida Mayes Floral Design House. Although not fully complete, as I seem unable to stop adjusting my website on a monthly basis, I couldn’t help but share our progress and the beautiful branding images that captured for this next phase of Ida Mayes.

My goal for these images was to convey the confidence that comes with maturity, professionalism with approachability, and a high-end aesthetic that feels both inviting and innovative.

I’m incredibly proud of this business of mine and so grateful for the journey that led me to this point and the people I’ve met along the way. Thank you for supporting Ida Mayes and me personally.

Spring garden party wedding with last weekend.

Recipe for an elevated Garden Party Wedding:

1. Full-petaled Spring flowers that echo those found in a garden.
2. Greenery-not 1, or 2 but 3 types to give lots of lush texture and natural movement.
3. Floral patterns: don’t forget the linens!!! Signage, linens, dresses etc. flower patterns add another dimension of visual interest and elevate your overall design.
4. Candles: I mean, just always candles.

5 Steps to a Successful Tablescape:

1. Contrast-Not just through color, but introducing contrast through shapes, height, patterns and textures, introduces a new perspective that literally makes the viewer stop to assess and form new opinions and ways of thinking about the interrelationship of one item, color or texture to another.

2. Texture-Texture can be emphasized through use of a complementary repeated texture or by mixing contrasting textural elements across all table elements—flowers, linens, hard goods, and stationary.

3. Repetition-Expand the application of repeated elements. From linen and serving patterns to candle and napkin textures, or repetition of whole floral designs to repetition of single flower varieties within each arrangement—repeating patterns, textures, and flowers, creates emphasis and draws the eye through the tablescape in a methodical way.

4. Balance: Recognize when too much is too much, even a maximalist design like this needs more neutral tones to balance the brightly saturated floral and keep the viewer from getting lost in one area of the design.

5. Play: Think outside the box and don’t forget to incorporate an element of play, perhaps it’s a color or pattern or simply the surprise element of bringing together seemingly disparate items.
