Imagine this… A wedding set in the 1950’s from the top of the Grand Collande (staircase). The Bride is so bashville, hiding in the background. How beautiful is she? What were they all thinking? This is one of hundreds of weddings held here. Cheers to many more! Once we figure all this out. We moved into this Big Ol House three weeks ago. It’s been a challenge to figure it out. We hope to reopen to the public in some reinvented capacity in late 2024-2025, but please give us space as we sort things out.

The chandelier in the foyer was purchased at an online auction, Charlton Hall, over a year ago. It was packaged in a “space bag” and stored in our garage ever since. We had no idea what we had purchased looked like and had to pull up pictures from the auction to remember. Well, the grand unveiling was last week. When the electrician announced it was too big for his crew to hang that day, Wendy, Anna, Kami and Debbie, all volunteered to hoist this beauty up to her new home. Weighing in at 75 - 100 lbs, the ceiling had to be reinforced to hold the weight. It’s called a Marie Antoinnette style chandelier, and is more ornament than the simple brass English chandeliers that were already here, but we had to embellish just a little. We remained true to the rest of the house, salvaging and rewiring all of the original lighting left behind, which was over 90%. We are so grateful that the original owners didn’t strip the house of her jewels, but left them to shine bright for future generations to enjoy. We feel honored to be good stewards or this magnificent historic gem and blessed to be able to restore it. As a funny, we watched the Money Pit tonight on Netflix. I loved when Tom Hanks refers to the house as “the pit”. Today Wendy was in the kitchen doing dishes and one of the young workers popped up in the window right in front of her and waved and said “Good Morning Ms Wendy”! She screamed and them said Good Morning! This has been our life for the past year and a half and we have honestly loved every moment of it and laughed so much along the way. We want to thank God and All of his helpers that have made this dream become a reality. Still pinching ourselves about the reality part! 😂

Circa 1992 flamingo pink 🦩 was HOT! FF to 2023…a traditional damask wallpaper reminiscent of the 1920’s is taking stage front and center in the foyer. Right or wrong? We’re just glad the pink is gone. Btw, the original color palate from 1924 was simple white on white. Times are changing, we hope you like it!

It’s been a long week chronicling the progress at the Stowe Manor, with less than expected events happening. So, we decided to make some stuff happen…on our own!!

Our new antique cement urns got delivered today and they are big, in scale with the house. Thanks to everyone who helped move these extremely heavy heirlooms!

The upstairs den ceiling has just had 100 years of funk and junk scraped off, sanded down and replastered in several places where humidity had won out over the years. This ceiling has seen a lot! But, it’s ready to see a lot More!! Now Looking anew, rejuvenated and crispy…Many thanks to all those who made this happen!! Cheers to next 100 years!!

We are sad to report that last evening around 6pm @stowe_manor lost 4 mature Oak trees near the front entrance of the property due to a massive lightning strike. Our Arborist assures us that they are now “dead”and must be removed soon. While we are sad to have lost these beautiful, healthy trees, we are grateful that lighting didn’t hit the house! #blessed

Today was a long awaited day at @stowe_manor that began very early and ended very late. After months and months of pool construction, hardscaping, landscape design and planting hundreds of shrubs, the tractor trailer load of Super-sod zoysia grass showed up unexpectedly at 7:45am this morning. It was a warm 89~ day and trying to keep the sod watered was a challenge to say the least. Needless to say, having grass instead of red mud is a great blessing. There are still a number of finishing touches to take place, so stay tuned! #stowemanor #downtownbelmont #renovation

This is the fireplace in the Library. Legend says that Mr. Stowe, back in the 1930’s, was always in front of a roaring fire with his legs propped up. He had diabetes and the heat helped his circulation. When we gained ownership of the house the original andirons were the only clue to the past. They were tarnished and rusted and looked like something off the side of the road for free. We saw some glimmer of hope and asked @homefires_usa if they could be restored, and if they could retrofit the fireplace to look like a wood-burning fireplace in gas. Alex at Homefires, of course, said yes, no problem. He proceeded to take six months to retrofit the fireplace to look like an original woodburning fireplace. Their specialty is gas coals, but this house did not call for that. This house said that Mr. Stowe needed a real wood-burning fireplace. Since Mr. Stowe is used to getting what he wants. We gave it to him. I think he would be proud. The andirons were painstakingly restored to their form of glory. The tips have bent over because they had gotten so hot in the 1930s that they melted. Alex said that these original andirons are hand forged from use earlier 1920’s and that if he were to sell them today, they would cost over $10,000 to replicate. we had no idea. We are just happy to enjoy and share the memories tha make up Stowe Manor. Let’s enjoy a warm fire on this toasty August evening in memory or Mr. SP Stowe. Cheers!

Sometimes the best things in life are free. These beautiful flowers were grown on property here at @stowe_manor. We have been preparing all week for Wendy’s niece’s baby shower and David’s Dad’s 90th birthday party, both happening here this Saturday. While Stowe Manor isn’t open for pubic events, we are doing bridal, graduation, engagement and maternity portrait sittings. We are really excited to install a new front lawn at the Stowe Manor. The past lawn was basically an uneven field of weeds… We are hoping for some new fescue soon!

We get a lot of inquiries about having parties and events at the Manor. While we aren’t doing those right now, we do plan to start offering Bridal portrait sitting sessions in the near future. Stay tuned for details in the next couple of months. #staytuned #dreamy #bridalportrait

The beautiful wood panels in the upstairs den appear to be beaming with excitement over their fresh coat of polyurethane!

Renovations continue this week. Our new AC crew is amazing and they are on the job 7 days a week! Thanks Morris Mechanical! Our new painting team is also on the job 7 days a week, thanks CraftWorks! Aka, NoDa Painting Company, Inc. Our reliable, wonderful, general contractor has been with us for over a year and we love David Stone! Walsh Crawl Space and Structural Repair fixed the foundation and the water issues in the basement. Our decorator, Gracious Living by Design - Anna Kucera, Interior Designer, has been simply amazing to work with. Her level of detail is Beyond! Infinity Pool Construction, LLC is about to get started thanks to a trusted referral from Sandy’s Pool service, who is simply the Best! There are far too many trades and artisans to mention, but we love and appreciate them all!
