This February, the Brenham Heritage Museum is proud to celebrate Black History Month by presenting “John and Mary Marks: A Love Story That Transcends Time and Boundaries.”

The exhibit, located in the museum’s Blue Bell Gallery, features pictures, maps, and artifacts centered around the life and times of John & Mary Marks, two of Washington County’s earliest known African American settlers. How did their lives and love story impact Washington County?

Come by the museum and explore the new exhibit to find out! The exhibit opens on February 16th and is available during regular Museum hours, Wednesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm, at 105 S Market Street in Brenham.

Did you know? 🤔
Presidents Day, originally called Washington’s Birthday, was a holiday created to celebrate our nation’s first President and would fall on what was believed to be Washington's birthday. However, in 1968 President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Uniform Holiday Bill that mandated that three holidays, including Presidents Day, occur on Mondays to prevent midweek shutdowns and add long weekends to the federal calendar.
