Happy 4th everyone. The flag pin below came from a past client of mine who makes these for the president's, past and present, and member of both houses.

I feel honored to have one. I love my country and I'm proud to show off our colors. Like many of you, I'm greatful for all who gave so much so we can be free.

All gave some, and some gave all!

All Gave Some and Some Gave All

05/27/2024

It doesn't feel right to say "Happy Memorial Day". To me, this day is a sobering reminder of the price that was paid for my freedom.

Unlike Veterans Day, today is about those who didn't come home. Those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Today I honor our fallen brothers and sisters who gave all by reflecting on their sacrifice and by pledging to never let a tyrannical government steal what was built on the blood of Patriots.

October 20th, 2013 looking out over the viaduct on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I had looked for years for this spot. I had seen others take photos from here but I was lost as to where exactly they had perched. I finally found it and it did not disappoint.

I was up there all alone. I sat there for hours waiting for the light to get just right.

This is far from the best shot you'll ever see of this scene. But nonetheless, it is special to me. I'll never forget the feeling of finally checking this off my bucket list.

Part of Tripple Falls in Dupont State Forest.

I spent a lot of time as a youth swimming in Lake Deere/Dupont Lake. Sadly, it is no longer open.

But back then I knew nearly nothing about the many waterfalls in that area.

It wasn't until I was out of High School that I started exploring more of this area.

I have mixed feelings about how the state took over this land and how the closure of the Dupont plant affected so many families here.

But setting that aside, I'm glad that this land is now accessible to the general public.

This is a different kind of waterfall shot for me. Instead of a long exposure, I used a short one to capture the intensity of the water as it rushed over the rocks.

I hope to get back out there soon and capture more of the beauty of this park.

I grew up less than a mile from this view of Dunn's Rock. It can be seen only from a narrow area of Transylvania County. But one of the best views of it is from Island Ford Road just before it intersects with Hwy 276.

It sits just above Rock Brook Camp and Mudd Dobbers Pottery formally known as Rease's Store.

There is a picturesque creek that runs down from the right side of this rock, filled with awesome waterfalls off enormous boulders. However, this is private property and you must get permission to explore this area.

Still, even from a distance it is beautiful, and seeing it takes me back to my childhood when I used to gaze at it in wonder.

I've always been fascinated by things like this. In a way, it helps put things in perspective as big as we think we are these rocks are even bigger.

They were here way before we were, and when we are all gone, they will still be right here.

Jiminy Cricket, I've been jumping at the chance to post this photo I took many years ago.

Disney could stand to learn a thing or two from their creation. Jimney once said,

"Take the straight and narrow path. And if you start to slide, give a little whistle! Give a little whistle! And always let your conscience be your guide.”

I know you've heard of a bed and breakfast, and an Airbnb. But how about a Bed and Bee?

These tiny little houses are just outside of Livi Ukraine in the Carpathian Mountains.

The owner told me the bee hives are under the beds of these tiny homes. Laying down on the beds you are lulled into a deep sleep by the hum in the hives.

I tried it and it was so soothing. Maybe I'll build some here.

Ammo storage at Fort Macon. I thought about posting this yesterday as it reminds me of an empty tomb.

I love the detail in the brick and floor and the way the light softly lit the interior. I think I took this sometime in 2013 but I am not sure.

The fort is located off NC Highway 58 near Atlantic Beach. It is well worth the visit.

Happy resurrection day. Today my wife and I made it to our church earlier than we ever had, but praise God there wasn't a single seat for us! It was standing-room only!

We were sad to be all dressed up with nowhere to go. But my hope is someone that beat us there will hear the transformational message of the Messiah!

I pray lives will be transformed today. Destiny will be rewritten and the peace of God will change many hearts today.

I took this on one of my many trips to Looking Glass Falls. I took this in August of 2013 and had to wade in the river to get this shot. Even that late in the Summer the water was fridged.

I think what I like about this shot the most is the lighting. It makes it look as if you've stepped out of a dark forest into a perfectly light oasis of life and water.

This was one of the first shots I turned into a print. I'm super critical of my own work, but this one surprised even me.

First Quarter Half Moon. I took this in 2013 with my old Nikon D5100 with a 200mm lens. Shot at f/5.6 1/60 of a second ISO 100. Tripod stablized. Unlike the fake AI cellular shots, this was taken as seen in the lens.

In 2014 I took a ride to Boone, NC. I took this image just a few hundred feet from where I lived in Boone while attending Appalachian State University.

This image captures two of my passions in one shot. While I really enjoy landscape photography, motorcycle photography was one of the big drivers behind my investment in good camera equipment.

The bike in the photo was my 2011 Kawasaki Concours 14. She was as fast as she looked.

I enhanced the lighting of this photo to match my emotional state on this day.

***Update***

Thanks for playing along. No one guessed the falls location correctly.

In a area known for many beautiful waterfalls, it is understandable how this one gets lost in the shuffel. I grew up in this area and had explored the area around these falls many times. But because it was below the road grade, I never paid it much attention. Then one day I did.

I made my way down the creek bank to the bottom of the falls. It was way more attractive standing at its base.

I set up my camera and started shooting. It took many attemps to capture the beauty of this location. I had to wait until the light was just right.

The appropriate location is just above the power line road on Cascade Lake Road and is part of the East Fork of Laural Creek, which eventually runs into Cascade Lake.

You can follow these GPS coordinates to find the falls:
35.2014242, -82.6434198

Scavenger hunt: This is another shot from 2013. This waterfall is not easy to find, but it is only a few feet from the road. I bet most people have no idea where this is and most drive right pass it without seeing it at all. I want to have some fun with this. If you want to put your guess as to its location in the comments below, I will tell you if you are hot or cold. Lets see how long it takes to get a correct answer. I may even give a few hints along the way. Here is the first hint, it is located in a county in North Carolina known as the land of the waterfalls.

It is the little things that matter. I took this photo of a bee and flower back in 2013. Life on this planet is such a delicate balance. We depend on the smallest things to help keep our world alive.
It is just as the creator designed it. How can you look at creation and not see the invisible hand of God?
Science tells us that all life came as a result of not one but many cosmic accidents. From chaos, everything we know of was formed. How can order come from chaos?
It takes more faith to believe that than it does to believe there was a designer.
