The dahlias are gracing us with their presence! Most people don’t realize the amount of time and energy that goes into growing this crop!
🌸
It’s our most labor-intensive flower crop. We hand dig 2000 holes, drop them in and then hand cover the 2000 holes! We then w**d, water, fertilize and “top” the dahlias for about 8 weeks.
🌸
When the buds start forming, we have to place organza bags over each and every bloom, or they will be chewed up by the grasshoppers! When we go to harvest, we have to first remove the bags, and then cut the stem! We then have to replace the bag onto the next dahlia bud!

When the harvest is over in October, we then have to dig the 2000 tubers out of the ground - by hand and foot! We then wash the 2000 dahlias (by hand🙄) and then we divid the tubers into about 10,000 more dahlias!!!

We carefully store the tubers in vermiculite over the winter in our 45* cooler. We sell any extra tubers we have on-line to home gardeners!

Keep an eye out, as we’ll be opening our fall dahlia tuber sale in about 3-4 weeks!

We’ll provide: an outdoor (covered) table and chairs that seats up to 20 guests situated near our beautiful pond with the sound of the soothing waterfall. This includes the lounge deck overlooking the pond with a comfy couch and other seating! Two and a half (2.5 hours), from 6:30-9pm. We’ll cut our best buckets of beautiful flowers and foliage for you to arrange from. We’ll also provide the flower vases, packets of flower food and snips for you to use to arrange a beautiful bouquet to take home and enjoy! We’ll also do all of the clean-up and provide the trash removal!

You provide: the bodies and the booze, the gossip, laughter, music and appetizers too!? Bring whatever you need to make this an unforgettable and magical evening for you and your friends and family!

Hello Brighton Friends!

Did you know that we are a local flower farm, right here in beautiful Brighton, CO!? That’s right! We are a family flower farm! We are going into our 9th year here at the original homestead, built in 1901, of Thomas J Rutherford! If anyone is familiar with the Rutherford family, who moved here from Iowa in the late 1890’s, we’d love to meet/talk with you/them!

We waited (and prayed) for 10 years for this property to come up for sale! In 2010, we purchased the property from the Letterly family! We are only the 3rd family to occupy this property/farm. It originally had 80 acres to the homestead, and we were left with 3.8 acres; small, but mighty! We feel very blessed to be the current stewards of this very special property!

Back to flowers: we specialize in growing peonies and have almost 4000 on the property! Our next big crop is dahlias (about 2500) and garden roses (about 300). We also grow many other flowers such as strawflowers, statice, lilacs, scabiosa, Veronica, celosia, herbs, lisianthus, snapdragons, zinnias, and a variety of grasses, fillers and foliages!

We sell 90% of our crops direct to florists, wholesale. But the other 10% is what we get to share with our local flower friends! We rely on the support of our local community to sustain our family flower farm! We appreciate your support and couldn’t survive without you!

Please keep us in mind for: CSA (community supported agriculture) Flower Bouquets - we offer 4 week subscriptions throughout our season, starting with the amazing peonies! We also offer flowers in bulk (by the bucket) for our DIY Brides, or any event (birthdays, corporate events, anniversaries, etc) - you place your order, swing by the farm and grab your flowers, and take home to design! We also offer single and custom bouquets via our website!
