Monday Night Captains: After checking several apps, the bad weather looks like it could be ending at 6:15-6:45 range. We will be cancelling the 6PM slot and carrying on with the rest of the night as scheduled. We apologize to those teams but this is done to save players from playing in unsafe conditions as well as uncomfortable rain. All other teams - we will contact you if anything else changes as the night progresses.

KAV Volleyball and Events

Ahh we hate rain 🌧️ as much as everyone else but these courts rarely ever get a puddle on them.

We used last week’s crazy rain to help guide us to where the 20 ton of imported white sand should go (notice the huge pile by the red court has vanished 🪄).

So as much as playing in a pond might be appealing on a hot day- we will just refrain from watering the courts for the night and carry on as planned!

We have been getting a lot of inquiries about the new setting rules being implemented in college volleyball. If you would like to read what the rule proposal was take a look.

The goal of the KĀV leagues has always been having fun with the most competitive matches possible. Not only do we get feedback to make improvements every year but we divide our playoffs so every team has a chance to win their bracket (helps to alleviate sand baggers and makes the playoffs fun for everyone).

Having said all that- this setting rule is very similar to what we have been doing for years. A majority of the teams that play at the KĀV (and everywhere else) are lower int to recreational. Should we be holding the players to a higher standard than NCAA and professional leagues? In our opinions the answer is no. If a player tries to set their teammate and it doesn’t get mangled over the net creating a possible unfair advantage, we have pretty much let the play go.

I’m sure it will be a slight learning curve and we will solicit feedback as always… but this one seems like a no brainer. It will feel weird to let poorly set balls go but once we can get over that, it will allow players to focus on playing and having fun rather than hoping the referee will help them win with calls.

We could speak to these ideas for hours but instead I’ll leave it at that and we are open to hear from everyone what their opinions are! But until then - let’s embrace the new rules as a way to lighten up the complaining about officials and focus on the fun longer rallies and games we all want to have.
