Let us introduce you to our next judge, Professor Robert Shannon. He has been Professor of Piano at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music since 1976. He has performed and given master classes in Europe, South America, Asia, and throughout the United States. His continuing series of recordings for Bridge Records has been widely praised in the world press.
Mr. Shannon’s repertoire ranges from Bach to Boulez but he has been particularly noted for his performances of twentieth century American composers. He has commissioned and premiered works by John Harbison, Charles Wuorinen, Tod Machover, Donald Erb, and George Crumb, among others. His recordings of solo and violin sonatas of Charles Ives (with long-time duo partner Gregory Fulkerson) have received rave reviews. He has been involved in expanding the repertoire for Disklavier interfaced with other media, which represents a whole new gamut of sounds and textural possibilities for a single performer. We look forward to meeting you in June!

His recent debut album, The Young Chopin, featuring a collaboration with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, has received critical acclaim, with Gramophone magazine praising his "comprehensive technical command... and bravura approach which is never garish or manipulative with careful voicing and subtle gradations of color."

In addition to a busy solo and collaborative career, Dr. Zuber is dedicated to helping the next generation of aspiring young artists. He is currently serving as Assistant Professor of Piano at the Michigan State University School of Music.

Eric holds degrees from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University (B.M., A.D., D.M.A.), the Curtis Institute of Music (Diploma), and the Juilliard School (M.M). His major teachers have been Boris Slutsky, Leon Fleisher, Claude Frank, and Robert McDonald. Dr. Zuber is a CME Artist.
