Giselle Gautreau’s “Meridian Drift” exhibit in the Chroma Gallery is exquisite and “The Culture of the Earth” group show in the main gallery from Isabelle Abbot, Fenella Belle, Lee Halstead, and Cate West Zahl is a botanical and pastoral dreamscape.

Charles Owens is an internationally acclaimed master tenor saxophonist, composer, band leader, recording artist, and educator and has been performing, composing, and teaching for over 35 years. Currently living in Richmond, VA, Charles is an integral part of the vibrant music scene there and in Charlottesville, VA. He has made 13 albums as a band leader, and has performed with numerous jazz luminaries.

Artist Tom Chambers specializes in photomontage—a medium where multiple photographs come together by cutting, rearranging, overlapping, and ultimately forming a new image.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​He starts by sketching the concept, then photographing each piece of the photomontage using a Nikon D800.

Photomontage speaks to the unexpected beauty that can come about in bringing together disparate parts to form a harmonious whole. It disrupts the viewer's perspective, creating a strong and alluring juxtaposition between what we expect to see and the ultimate final result.

Wine stories make the best stories. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Join us for our new free monthly series powered by Speak! Language Center, Tea + Travel, on Tuesday, June 18th, from 5-6:15pm.

Join us in the Micro Gallery for a First Friday opening reception, on June 7th from 5-7 pm, showing Peter Eudenbach: Nocturne.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Peter Eudenbach uses sculpture, video, photography, and curatorial projects to explore relationships and poetic connections between function, absurdity, and serendipity while challenging our expectations of the commonplace. In Nocturne, Eudenbach photographs a vintage ice cream scoop, illuminated by the artist at changing angles, to replicate the moon's stages. Or, in the work for which the exhibition is named, a cyanotype time exposure of a music stand summons a connection between the visual and the auditory. A visual phenomenon inspired Beethoven’s famous Moonlight Sonata by that name; set to music by a deaf composer.

A recipient of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship in 2007, Eudenbach’s work has been shown nationally and internationally at venues such as Exit Art in New York; the Kunstverein Grafschaft Bentheim in Neuenhaus, Germany; the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, Virginia; the Redwood Library in Newport, Rhode Island, and at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art in Charleston, SC. Eudenbach’s work is in permanent collections including the Dollar Tree Corporation, and the Barry Art Museum in Norfolk, VA, and the Weatherspoon Museum in Greensboro, NC. He lives in Norfolk, VA, where he is a Professor in the Art Department at Old Dominion University.

The exhibition runs through June 28th.
