Unfortunately, we haven’t had the time to invest in working on the dancehall like we had hoped. Rather than just letting it sit, we decided the time has come to pass it on. Today we are thankful for all of the brave men and women who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. We are also thankful for their families and friends who stayed behind to live out their legacies. May we never take our freedom for granted!

We know a lot of you are anxious for us to show more progress. Trust us, we are at the top of that list! We keep having to remind ourselves that these things take time. This weekend we met with our amazing architect to finalize our plans for restoring the main dance hall and renovating bathroom and kitchen areas. We love that he has the same vision that we do: keep things as original as possible and preserve the history. We can’t wait to share some images with y’all when we get the final versions back from him!

We didn’t get as much done as we would have liked, but we uncovered some of the gorgeous dance floor, some neat treasures, a bunch of rat nests 🤢 and dirt, and made a decent dint in the cleanup. Next time we will try to do a Timelapse of the process for y’all.

We have so much to be thankful for! We two stepped our “first dance” as official owners the weekend that we closed on the dance hall. It was a celebration of the blessing to be able to breathe life back into an amazing piece of history. Our hearts have been filled with gratitude for all of the new friends we have made (and will continue to make) through the Cistern Hall. We hope you enjoy the day with your loved ones, and we wish you a very Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!

Just a quick update for y’all. We’ve been a little quiet, and things seem to be moving in sloth mode. These things take time, but we are making progress. We have power!! The old transformer was in pretty rough shape. Thank you to Fayette Electric Coop for getting our electricity set up!

We had our first work day today! It’s been a family affair! The kids helped with mowing, cleaning up trash, and they found SO many old bottles and cans! 😂

We have been blown away by all of the support and excitement! We are very grateful for all of the messages from people asking how they can donate time or make donations to help bring The Cistern Hall back to life, and for the bands that are excited to come play on this historic stage.

We’ve had a lot of questions about who “we” are and wanted to take the time to introduce ourselves and tell y’all a little about us. Our names are Kenneth and Rachel Johnson. We met in college at the Last Beer of the Year concert with Aaron Watson at the Texas Hall of Fame. Sadly, where the Hall of Fame once stood is now a Wal-Mart. When we found out about Cistern Hall being for sale, we couldn’t let it disappear, too! We are currently in the planning phase where we have engineers and architects helping us map out the best way to revive this Historic Texas Dancehall.

With the requests for a place to send monetary donations, we are working on the best way to make that happen. We will keep you updated on any progress or news here on our page.
