Capital District Ukrainian Festival
The festival started in 2016 in Watervliet as the Ukrainian Festival of Independence and has brought together the Ukrainian communities and their friends from around the region. While festivals were held prior to this, there is a continued effort to make this festival an annual event and to grow it to match the success of some of the other cultural festivals in the area. In 2017, the Ukrainian community committee members changed location to Cohoes and it has continued there since. The communities will continue to celebrate Ukrainian Independence day every August and share it with the capital region. In 2018 the festival was renamed as the Capital District Ukrainian Festival and a website was added. Dancing, music, vendors and great Ukrainian food will bring us all together to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company and meet new friends.
