Vibes Open Mic is back this week with a very special feature. As many of you know a pillar in our community, and my beloved brother, Ernest Levert experienced a brain aneurysm earlier this month. As he continues to heal, let us come together to uplift him. Ernest has often shied away from the title “poet”; however I always call him one and anytime he comes to a show I insist he shares. On socials he often writes and shares poems under the pseudonym Hai Way.

In honor of Ern, I’ll be reading his haikus all night and welcoming anyone else who writes (but doesn’t consider themselves a poet) to come and share. All donations / proceeds will go directly to the Levert family.

We’re so excited to have Kenzo Heartnette!!

Kenzo Heartnette is a Chicago-native whose work can be best described as a cross between Langston Hughs and Lil U*i Vert. Kenzo Heartnette is a rockstar of a poet who subverts all expectations and a quirky libertine eager to defile every convention he can. With a degree in theatre performance and creative writing he draws from all avenues to create and perform.

Atlas is an acclaimed writer, poet, spoken word performance artist, and educator. He earned an MFA in Creative Writing at Miami OH and Bachelor of Arts degree in English at the University of New Hampshire. He is the co-founder of Underdog Academy. His expansive body of work includes literature, live performance, curating, anthology, and broadcast media. He was recently featured on the Black Matter is Life Series - Race for stem for Black Heritage Trail of NH alongside the legendary Sonia Sanchez and Marc Bamuthi Joseph.
