The poem “L’Apres-midi d’un Faune” by Symbolist poet Stéphane Mallarmé explores the Faun’s longing for nymphs and his realization that his desires are but an illusion. WHAT’S NOT AN ILLUSION is this enticing little bev created for the spring/summer menu.

“Nymph’s Kiss” isn’t just any cocktail; it’s a mythological journey, a sip of enchantment. 🪄
Crafted with gin, fernet menthe, watermelon syrup, lemon juice, cherry bitters, and a hint of saline, it sings a symphony of refreshing melon, mint, and herbal notes.
(Also may or may not induce feelings of longing and midnight revelry.) 🌓🌚

Please meet the “Last Leg Julep” A frisky and friendly julep anticipating The Run for the Roses. 🌹

And…

“Private Eyes” which is inspired by the legendary noir crime via writer Raymond Chandler. He lovingly immortalized the gimlet in his 1954 novel, “The Long Goodbye”. 🔎

Our new menu was handcrafted by our team, and each one has its own little nod to staff or the space.
More to come in terms of introductions, but you can stop by and sneak a peek for yourself!

His culinary journey has taken him from the bustling markets of Asia to the charming bistros of Europe, each experience shaping his unique culinary style. Through his gourmet courses, Chef Castaneda and his team, invite diners to embark on a sensory adventure, celebrating the diverse flavors and traditions of global cuisine.

Chef will create a memorable dinner for us here at Second Story on March 25th. As we are closed on Mondays, this will be a private, ticketed dinner with cocktail pairings. Tickets are available through the 18th!

We will be hosting a Singles Mixer on February 16 for those flyin’ solo. 💫 There will be a few little surprises (collaborative art mural anyone?), a DJ setting the vibe, and Mediterranean food. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Safer Birth Foundation, which among many things, works to provide access to midwives for families whose income is below the poverty threshold.

The Clover Club is a pre-Prohibition classic, named for a turn-of-the-century Philadelphia Men’s Club, that indulged in “Social Enjoyments, the Cultivation of Literary Tastes, and the Encouragement of Hospitable Intercourse.” A “Finer Things Club” if you will. The pink hue of their eponymous cocktail reflected the exclusivity of this gentleman’s group, because at the time, pink was a power color for high society’s movers and shakers. This beautifully bold cocktail is a delicate composition of Gin, Vermouth, Lemon, and Strawberry-Raspberry.

Our first holiday season at Second Story has us feeling especially festive and spirited, and we thought you’d like to get to know some of the amazing alchemical magicians behind the bar ❤️
Michaela (smiley sprite to the right) has been in the bar industry for years, and a Lead at Second Story since we first opened. She also frequently creates and sells her own clothes at our Staff Vendor Nights. Alexis (our fav “final girl” to the left) has also been with us since the very begininng and started as a barback, but quickly worked her way up to being in charge of all of our prep (alongside ). She’s now in training to bartend, while grooming pets during the day.
Jordan (our metal thrasher in the middle) came on shortly after we opened, when we realized we needed more heavy hitters to sling cocktails for our thirsty guests. He’s worked in the bar scene for a while and plays in a band called “Obsidian Mind”, as his side hustle.

We’ll soon be closing the book on our Prose & Potion cocktail, to make way for our seasonal winter menu. There’s still a few days left to enjoy this herbal concoction, imbued with orchard notes and embraced with citrus. Composed of gin, vodka, house tonic, and Amaro liqueur, which the Italian poet, Gabriele D’Annunzio referred to as “the liqueur of virtues.” An ironic phrase considering he was a fervent lover of Nietzsche, who led a life resplendent in libertine scandal and amoral notoriety. Our Prose & Potion is an intoxicating love letter to the classic gin and tonic, with a splash of libertine bohemianism.
