Joan Gayle, Restaurateur, got her start as a young girl. At the age of 5, her grandmother, Mama Iris, was an incredible cook. Back home in Westmoreland, Jamaica, Mama Iris would cook for the family and always attended to others in the community. Mama Iris would interrupt Joan’s playtime to have her come and watch her in the kitchen. She would watch Mama Iris cook like an artist. She learned her wa

y around the kitchen and down home cooking techniques. Cooking became second nature to Joan. As a young lady, she was constantly asked to cook for friends and family. When invited to birthday parties, Joan was asked to cook in lieu of a gift. She became a successful caterer. On the recommendations of friends, family and clients, Joan opened Iris Caribbean Restaurant in 2009. Here at Iris, you will experience authentic Caribbean cuisine with classic menu.
