Founded in 1921, The Annunciation Greek Orthodox church is a faithful Orthodox Christian community welcoming all to come and worship the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit with us as it was done in the first days of Christianity.

It's my own belief that of all times of the year for Orthodox Christian churches to throw open their doors and invite visitors, Holy Week and Easter is when to do it. These are the services that are central to what we believe; this is when to visit.

So, here we are. Tomorrow is Palm Sunday; a week from tomorrow is Easter. If you're in the Dayton area, you can come visit our parish Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church at 500 Belmonte Park North, downtown next door to the Dayton Art Institute. Services are mostly in English, with perhaps one in 5 hymns in Greek.

The schedule for the week is attached. If you come, please introduce yourself or say hello! Hope to see you there! Good strength to everybody!

Ca****la Romana Tickets: Still Available!

Tickets are still available for the upcoming Ca****la Romana concert at Annunciation Greek Church on May 21. For more details about this rare opportunity see below:

The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Dayton, Ohio, is pleased to present a concert by Ca****la Romana this coming Saturday, May 21st, at 7 pm. There will be a pre-concert talk by the director, Dr. Alexander Lingas, at 6 pm, and the concert will be followed by a reception with light refreshments.

Here in Dayton, Ca****la Romana will present its celebrated concert Lost Voices of Hagia Sophia, featured on NPR in 2020, as linked below.

https://www.npr.org/2020/02/22/808404928/listen-the-sound-of-the-hagia-sophia-more-than-500-years-ago.

Vocal ensemble Ca****la Romana was founded by music director Alexander Lingas in 1991, and celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2021. The ensemble combines passion with scholarship in its exploration of early and contemporary music of the Christian East and West. Its name refers to the medieval Greek concept of the Roman oikoumene (inhabited world), which embraced Rome and Western Europe as well as the Byzantine Empire of Constantinople (“New Rome”) and its Slavic commonwealth. Its director, Dr. Lingas, is a world-renowned scholar of historical music and its performance.

This concert is a part of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church’s ongoing celebration of its 100th anniversary. The parish was founded in 1921, so plans for the 100th anniversary have been ongoing for several years. Those plans were severely disrupted due to COVID-19, and as a result, we have had to postpone and alter our celebration several times. We had planned originally for a variety of events, among which were to be several that would invite our friends and neighbors from the Dayton community to celebrate with us; most of those events were casualties of COVID (although we WILL be resuming our annual Greek Festival this September, the weekend after Labor Day).

To bring Ca****la Romana to Dayton was a last-minute opportunity, but we hope to still share the grandeur and glory of our history and heritage with the broader community in and around Dayton. All are welcome!

Support Annunciation When You Shop!

Did you know there are three ways to support Annunciation every time you shop at Kroger, Amazon, or Dorothy Lane Market? Please take a few minutes to be sure your shopping rewards accounts are connected to our church. Below is information about how to do this:

Kroger Community Rewards - If you have a Kroger card (we all do!) you can designate Annunciation to receive a percentage of all your purchases. Visit: https://www.kroger.com/i/community/community-rewards with your Kroger Plus Card login info and designate “Greek Orthodox Church ‘Annunciation’” as your preferred charity.

Amazon Smile - If you shop at Amazon (don’t we all?), you can enroll in Amazon Smile and select Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church (check to make sure it’s the one in Dayton, Ohio!) as your preferred charity and Amazon will donate .5% of the proceeds of your eligible purchases to the church. Visit smile.amazon.com for instructions and be sure to type smile.amazon.com in your browser when shopping.

Learn more about how you can help raise funds for community schools, churches and other nonprofit organizations. Our community rewards program makes it easy. Learn more about Kroger Community Rewards.

This Thursday the Greek Orthodox church celebrates the Ascension of Christ which is 40 days after Pascha (Easter) and we sing: "You ascended in Glory, uniting the earthly with the heavenly."

Blessed feast!

The Feast of the Ascension of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ is celebrated each year on the fortieth day after the Great and Holy Feast of Pascha (Easter). The Feast itself commemorates when, on the fortieth day after His Resurrection, Jesus led His disciples to the Mount of Olives, and after....
