Thanks to Wright State University alumnus Joel Thompson for sharing his time and talents this past week for the WSU Music Education program. Thompson worked with WSU Professor Bill Jobert on creating a video series for next semester’s String Pedagogy class.

Thompson, a Luthier, owns and runs Side Door Strings just south of Centerville on Rt 48 where he makes, restores, and repairs orchestral string instruments. The videos include great information with basics teachers need like changing a string and how a bridge works to more advanced work that a teacher would have a professional do like reseating a sound post or resealing a seam.

Thompson will again be presenting a professional development session for teachers and music education majors at the WSU Fall Strings Festival next October as well as performing on the artist recital during the weekend.

Great video article about the November masterclasses given by professional trumpet player and teacher Ashley Hall-Tighe . It was a great day of learning for the trumpet studio and then for all the student musicians who attended the sessions about reflecting on career pathways and working through stress and anxiety. Thanks to Wright State University trumpet professor Stephen M. Wadsack for helping provide this opportunity for our students.
