Artist spotlight! Joe Tagessian is coming out from Boston for our Bless This Mess - BTM + Snack Time Detroit 8/3 extravaganza Party at Chema’s

Joe Tagessian aka Joey Tagz is a Boston-based house and techno DJ who enjoys getting his fingers dirty digging for vinyl. A familiar face and true contributor to the Boston scene, Joe’s number one goal is to keep the party moving with solid house and techno selections. Creator of his own vinyl-only party series “Play Nice”, and carrying the torch for the legendary Re:Set Wednesdays at The Phoenix Landing in Cambridge. Starting his DJ career at the Original club Therapy:. in Providence, Rhode Island playing as a resident DJ in the basement. Joe has been making his rounds at all the local hot spots as well as some major openings and gigs out of the country and throughout the states. A true believer in the gift of music, his love for the groove shows in his carefully selected records to make the most of every situation and create a tension on the dance floor making you dance nonstop :)

I broke my ankle :( so I'm just gonna make stuff. The elektron model samples was my first piece of gear outside of Ableton. It’s beautifully expansive but limiting at the same time (and pretty cheap). I doodled on it the other day and was stoked about how it looked so wanted to give a little demo. Playing some records over at the shiny new on Saturday. The connection came about because played one of my tracks on .berlin which was awesome. we connected and met for a delicious meal at .corecity where I also met who’s doing great things in Core City.

Puma reminds me of Arbella in Chicago; great menu, drinks, sound system by and thoughtful music programming. Plus the orange trim is pure eye candy. it’s one of the best oranges I’ve ever seen. I’m playing 5-8 come check it out.

Another of many release days this year. Got a new track on Aathee records Year 9 compilation along side a bunch of other awesome artists and friends, check it out. It’s a feisty house track, sampled vox from Harding flipping out in One Flew Over the Cuckoos nest

I studied film in undergrad and it’s been really awesome integrating the concepts of narrative structure into my music and DJ sets as well as pulling references and samples from movies that made me, me. One flew over the cuckoos nest was ‘required viewing’ when i was a kid from pops. I loved it, I cried, I laughed, I think it’s one of the best movies ever made. Maybe my favorite part of making music is how you can sample to breathe new life into masterpieces that sometimes slip from our sphere of reference and influence. Not on my watch 😉

Sunday service is coming a few hours early this weekend in Detroit. The holy trinity assembles at the altar. and I speaking in musical tongues deep into the night. is taking confessions, wash away your sins in a complimentary baptism by , and I’ll be giving a snobby sermon about vinyl being superior to digital.
