Based on Orcas Island in the upper part of the Puget Sound, this women-led team not only grows 130+ acres of food and botanical fields of h**p and lavender, but also has a mission to support their community through plant-based wellness products, creating jobs and giving back. Inclusion is the biggest part of their vocabulary. They are LGBTQ+ owned, managed and allied, and work to create a safe space where everyone can be who they are. “We lead our team with care and respect for ourselves and each other. Planting A Rainbow with Farmer Kenneth - The potato patch has been harvested! We dug up an estimated two hundred pounds of Kennebec Russets. There were quite a few huge eight inch long ones. These are almost all destined to become french fries at the Kingfish Inn. There was a bit of loss due to voles tunneling throughout the potato hills but it was overall a successful harvest.

In the garden we have been harvesting lots of tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, swiss chard, kale and eggplant. Blackberries started ripening last week and we have sold many pints to the chef at the Kingfish.

Planting A Rainbow with Farmer Kenneth - The summer heat has definitely arrived. The early morning hours are now devoted to keeping our plants hydrated, as well as ourselves. Many new seeds have gone in the ground and they are especially delicate at this stage. Our row of lettuce was removed and fed to the chickens, it had gotten very bitter with age and the heat. In its place we sowed a fifty foot row of green beans or I suppose I should say pink beans since the variety planted, Tanya's Pink Pod, produces beautiful rosy pods.

Planting a Rainbow with Farmer Kenneth - The garden is blowing up with growth! The corn is sending out its tassels and before long little ears will be forming. Our golden cherry tomatoes are just starting to produce and every few days we are picking an heirloom tomato. There is nothing quite like eating one of these tomatoes straight off the vine, warm with the summer sun. We harvested our first little basket of green beans today and we expect that there will be a decent harvest of them next week. The pole beans have really taken off and are now at least 8 ft tall and growing rapidly.

Our Sanitizer Fights Germs - Quickly kill bacteria when no soap and water are available with this germ killing hand spray. The Quinoa this year is 😍 some fun facts about this amazing seed ⏬

🌿Quinoa has an excellent amino acid profile, as it contains all nine essential amino acids making it a complete-protein source.

🌿With twice the protein content of rice or barley, quinoa is also a very good source of calcium, magnesium and manganese.

🌿 It is a seed, which is prepared and eaten similarly to a grain.

🌿Quinoa can be grown just about anywhere

🌿Much of the world's Quinoa is grown in Bolivia at elevations around 12,000 feet.

🌿10 plants will yield roughly one pound of grain, depending on your growing conditions.

🌿Quinoa is drought-resistant and only requires 10 inches of water each growing season.

🌿Quinoa is ready to harvest when all the green leaves have fallen off the plant, and the plants are just seed heads on a stalk.

🌿Quinoa should be very dry when harvested, dry enough that you can't dent the seed with your fingernail.
