I understand how it can be stressful for families to take family photos. Often times it’s just those hours leading up to the session that seem the most hectic. Here are some tips for session prep:
1. Talk to your kids about the session a few days leading up to it. Let them know it’s going to be fun!
2. Try on all outfits. Make sure they fit. Make sure everyone feels comfortable in them.
3. Plan to arrive at your session 15 minutes early. If you’re like me, and have kids with you, this should get you there right on time.
4. If you have a spouse that is not too keen on photos, let them know how much the photos mean to you and that their only job is to be present and live on their family. Easy, right?
5. Pack an extra set of clothes just in case. Kids get dirty or wet. Someone will complain last minute. Or, let them know that once photos are done, they can change into a more comfy outfit.

When everyone is together for the holidays, it is a perfect time to schedule extended family photos. The beach is an awesome location, as is your home/vacation rental or many of the trails or urban backdrops in the area.

Question for parents with school-aged kids: how long does the process from waking your kid up to getting them out the door take? For example, today it took me 30 minutes to get my child out of bed, which left 7 minutes for her to get dressed, eat, and get to the bus stop. I shall rest now and try to lower my heart rate….😅
