Many of you have asked about Santa on the farm. We are sorry to say that we aren't going to be able to make it happen this year. We enjoyed it very much last year and hope to make it happen next year.
We are still available by appointment if you would like to visit with the horses, no charge.
We also have evergreen wreaths and porch decorations available. We want you to have the freshest evergreen items available so they are made to order. Short description of each are included in the picture captions. PM us for details!

Saying goodbye to the flowers 😔. I combed through the dahlias looking for some surprises.. I found what I was looking for and thought I would share! If you grow dahlias, I hope you try this too!
Dahlias can be grown from seed! As long as the flower was pollinated and seeds have had time to develop, you will have seeds from your dahlias! There are several videos further explaining how to locate the seed pods. The interesting thing about collecting and growing your own is that each plant grown from seed will be totally different from the parent! If you want the exact same dahlia, you can't get it from the seed, you would need to divide your tuber or take leaf cuttings.
I over winter my dahlias, I don't dig them up and store them. I leave them in the ground. I will post about that process in a few weeks! For now I just let the dahlias die back and the tubers rest.
Trying to document some of the prettier dahlias that we grow before it frosts! I wish the deer had left the sunflowers alone. I would love to have done this with them! I love the filtered pics, very romantic (first two) but the true colors are so vibrant ( last two pics) Planning on adding some burgundy & peach colors for next year.

If you didn't get a wagon ride, we apologise. The weather was hot and we respect the needs of our horses. We will only ask so much of them. With any horse, it's a partnership, not a demand. We have built up that relationship over time. The weather was just too hot to make them work all afternoon. Cinder and Jolene did a great job today!

Saturday is the big day! FREE ADMISSION! The weather is looking like it's going to be decent! This year's Fall Craft Fair is our biggest event of the year! We are excited to see what the vendors are going to be selling! There will be something for everyone! From barn quilts to jewelery! From leather to crochet!
From baked goods to metal work! From kettle corn to pottery!
Pumpkins, mums, broom corn, straw, and so much more for you outdoor decorations!
We are planning on horse drawn wagon rides! They will be by donation again this year.
Bluegrass jam sessions through out the day! Bring your instruments and your dancing feet!
Or just enjoy wandering around the farm and visiting with the horses!

HELLO FALL! We are getting ready to open the farm! Get all of your fall decorations in one place, straight from our garden!
Our first sale day is this Saturday the 23! We will be open rain or shine from 11-4! If it's raining we will be in the barn! Better come early for best selection! Limited number of stackers, blacks, and mums! Once it's gone, it's gone! Reminder, Craft Fair is Sept. 30. We will be open every Saturday until the end of October or until we sell out! Can't wait to see you!
The good. The bad. And the ugly!
You work well before planting time, what did you learn from last year, how are you going to improve this year? You plan your crop, order seeds, prepare the soil, plant your seeds, and hope for the best. Wish it was that easy!
The struggles of producing a crop of anything are just that. Struggles.
We did a better job this year with the weeds, except for cuckleburrs. We did a better job this year with our pumpkin varieties. We did a better job of controlling the insects (early on.)
BUT there are somethings that you can't control. Mother Nature.
We had to reorder and replant about 1/3 of our patch because the birds dug up the seeds. Pumpkin plants prefer to be a little dry as opposed to too wet. Heavy rains didn't do us any favors on our young plants. Then the month long drought stunted them again. You worry when the blossoms are all males and not a female in sight! You tell yourself 'God's got this.' And try not to worry.
Now we are in the home stretch! Pumpkins are looking perfect! The vines are starting to naturally die back and revealing the treasures hidden beneath. But, we weren't the only ones watching our perfect pumpkins growing.
A groundhog moved in about 2 weeks ago & the deer have figured out our 3D electric fence. Both have decided that this is the week to start taste testing everthing in the patch! Our pumpkins. Our sunflowers. Our corn!
Mother Nature has decided, It's time to pick the pumpkins!
Weaning the Shire fillies this week! They have settled down fairly quickly and will soon join the other 3 weanlings!

Our mum's progress since beginning of August. They were doing great in their original location, 2nd & 3rd pics. So good that the critters started taste testing them 😤 Now they are in a new location, under lockdown, in the back yard! Won't be too much longer until they start to bloom! Pumpkins are ripening too! Can't wait to see everyone soon! Our first sale date is Sept 23! Craft fair date is Sept 30! We will be open every Saturday until the end of October!

Our 3 yr old, home bred Shires Daytona and Dillinger, then and now! We are blessed to have an amazing friend, Andrew Troyer, who starts our youngsters. This year, 2 of his sons have taken an active role in the training of our team. It really pulls at the heartstrings to see these young men, whom we have watched grow up, carrying on the traditions!
Pumpkin plants have really taken over! This lower side is so tall & thick that it's hard to spot the pumpkins! The pumpkins pictured are growing on a trellis! Black Kats & Casperitas!

Sneak peek of a photo shoot with Heather Turner Photography LLC. That is us posing... booked models kept cancelling last minute. We needed to 'get er done,' so we did it ourselves! A lot of work went into preparing everything, but we did it & so happy with this sneak peek!
The flowers have really taken off this year! We will continue to take some to the farmer's market in Rocky Mount on Saturdays. We are also 'private selling' here on the farm by appointment. If you are looking for flowers for a particular event & you like to do your arrangements, keep us in mind! New flower varieties will be blooming soon!

We started weaning the older foals this weekend. They have been doing great. First time they have all been together. Shire c**t, on the left, has really buddied up with the Clydesdale c**t, center. Lil Miss Clydesdale, on the right, is the boss! She is also the messy one!
