Happy International Women’s day! On this day, we celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about women’s equality, lobby for accelerated gender parity and fundraise for female-focused charities. Today I am choosing a UK-based, black feminists organization dedicated to addressing violence against women.

This year was perhaps the greatest year of our lifetime. A pause in which to reflect. It revealed the best and worst in us.

First off- no one was exempt. That in itself is a source of comfort- a reminder that despite our differences, we are inextricably linked.

9 months ago, this fetus of fear and uncertainty was conceived and It made us think, what indeed could we do without?

As information increased and our knowledge to protect ourselves and each other became clearer, our humanity has resurfaced with greater strengths. We checked in on our neighbours and empathetically listened to the fears of others around us. We began to show solidarity towards oppressed groups in our society. We once again, became a community. A community that supports.

Within the walls of our home, we baked lopsided cupcakes with our children and though they may not be as perfect as the local bakery, they were in a way, far better. The ramen noodles may not have been devoured but it bonded our family with laughter. Homeschooling our kids has taught us how dumb we actually are when in comes to basic math.

We dusted off long forgotten projects and set our minds to accomplish its completion. ( I finally learned AutoCAD!!!!)... not to mention how we mastered Zoom amidst the household chaos.

We made the time to look within ourselves and reassess where we stand in terms of our faith, our strengths and our weaknesses. To honour what we cherish and to dispose of what no longer serves us. That includes our habits, our relationships and our possessions. We eased our stress with the indulgence of doing nothing at times. The privledge of life’s basic pleasures- whatever they are to you. Somewhere in this world of go-go-go the basics have been lost.... they’ve even become associated with failure and you may not have accomplished your all your good intentions but hey- congrats! You,re human.

We all count the days to 2021, hoping for a utopia at the strike of midnight, myself included. But life will ebb and flow no matter what the year.

I pray that whatever it is that you’re going through- you find peace and support in your community. I wish you all the best. studios

I would like to apologize to anyone I have not offended yet. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.
No but on a serious note... the amount of people who are here on social media just to make someone else day miserable is pretty staggering. It seems like no matter what I share I have at least one person who takes it out of context, twist it around and message me on how I have offended them. Listen... I keep it real. And although I have grown thick skin to internet hate, Im just asking you to be mindful of things you say to people online. Don’t let your social media feed deepen your biases and blind spots. Remember, everything you consume here is being systematically and centrally controlled and you most likely have your own little bubble that you feed off of and the minute you see anything that doesn’t line with your closed ideology, you get uncomfortable.
Usually I try not to get carried away with the online drama but today I fell like I want to yell to everyone that we need to educate ourselves better!! Keep our damn mind open!!
Ok rant over
How ya like my borrowed outfit though 😎
And how amazing does this backdrop look!??? I loved working with pampas grass for this hexagon Arch.

It’s my birthday month!! And I’m turning 30!! The BIG THREE O
Thought I would lost 30 things I learned in the time I’ve been alive!
Here is goes:

1. Start before you’re ready.
2. Biryani will never fail you (except when you’re “land-mined” by the elachi)
3. Find a husband who can cook
4. Your kids dont need you 24/7
5. Find something you want to do and do it well- give it your 100%
6. For me to spend time with someone, their company has to be better than my solitude
7. Self care is not a waste of time and it is not selfish
8. Never say no to cake- eat it before your meal If you have to
9. It’s ok to be at the bottom- no one starts at the top
10. Allah s.w.t always answers your prayers with, “Yes,” “Yes, but not now,” or “No, because I have something even better for you in store.”
11. Save money to invest- not to flex
12. Passive income streams= early retirement= more time to spend doing what you love

13. Your past does not define you. If you are grateful for where you are now, you have to respect the road that got you there

14. Without your body, you quite literally have nothing. Respect it. Nourish it. Exercise it.

15. You don’t need closure to move on.
16. When in doubt, call your mom she just knows
17. Don’t dwell in your mistakes for too long. Life is short — forgive yourself and move on.
18. Expect nothing in return
19. Everything you do is practice until it isn’t.
20. Everything is impermanent on this dunya (earth) so invest in your Akhira (hereafter)
21. Schedule time for your creative outlet
22. Accept the apology you never received
23. Book that damn ticket and travel
24. Take more risks when you are younger
25. Always know your “why’
26. Create good memories
27. Fail, fail some more, and then fail again
28. Start with what you have and be resourceful
29. Loyalty is priceless
30. Keep learning. Knowledge is power.

I am sure you must have noticed that I have recently change my profile. I get asked why so let me share some of my thoughts with you. I have primarily changed my appearance on social media because I want to use this platform to give my business a voice. This platform is a place where i feel free to say what’s on my heart and find other people who connect with what i believe. It gives me a sense of community.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a wonderful age that we live in, this era when we can publish ourselves and share our best thoughts with the world: when we can post a video on Youtube that gets shared on another continent or write a blog post that touches just one other soul.
It really is an amazing time and I feel obligated to take advantage of this resource in advancing myself and my business.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have so many life experiences that have taught me very valuable lessons and I am grateful that i can share those experiences and even if one person can get inspired by me and what i do... that would be more than enough.

I’ve learned to let go of rigidity and learned to just trust the process. Just letting expectations turn into big disappointments has taught me some really valuable lessons. I don’t know who needs to hear this but just have faith and you will adapt....Your creator is the best of planners.

To all you instafam Momprenuers! Take a quick moment and remind yourselves that you are Queens! I know how hard it gets with being an entrepreneur/freelancer and a mommy!
I know that not only are some days a struggle, but many are filled with pain and doubt. When you get into running your own business, you think you are prepared for the choppy waters, but you soon realize that you had no idea how choppy the waters would get. Your decision to pursue your entrepreneurial dreams is going to impact your children because it has a profound impact on you. Sure, there are moments where you feel confident; knowing that you are doing this to show your kids that anything is possible if your work hard... But sometimes, those moments don’t last long enough. If something—anything—goes wrong with our kids, doubt begins to set in. Did it happen because we weren’t paying enough attention? Did it happen because of something we forgot to do? Are we failing them because we are up until 3:00 a.m. working on our business?I wish I could tell you the amount of times I’ve felt paralyzed with guilt. It’s only with experience and a dozen “mishaps” that I’ve grown thicker skin.
When you choose to combine motherhood and career in any way, shape or form, there will always be trade-offs, sacrifices and compromises.
With time and lessons learned you come to find that failure is an opportunity to learn something so you can do better down the line. But the reality is that even when you’ve evolved enough to get that, failure still hurts. It still leaves you feeling like you aren’t hustling hard enough…
But hey! At the end of the day I know I want to be a woman who my kids will want to crave to be around and hopefully they are going to be proud to call me mommy. ❤️

03/28/2019

When I started my fitness journey, I was very focused and I knew I needed to slam that fitness goal of having a flat tummy ( birthing 2 kids made my stomach a write off). I kept telling myself “I just want my body back” (referring to the pre-babies body when I was 96 pound and I could inhale an entire restaurant and not gain a single pound). What I’ve realized is that this idea that “my body must snap back” to what it once was made me believe that my body now is somehow not worthy or acceptable. The more i started following “fitness” accounts on Instagram the more i started to feel ashamed of they way my body is. Watching pregnant women jump back into six packs just weeks after giving birth... that gave me next level anxiety!!

The truth is that my body has given birth to 2 beautiful children. How dare I even take that for granted for a single second? My body has been working to keep me moving, functioning, and breathing and will continue to do everything it can to keep me alive and well in the future.
The belief that your current body is no longer worthy, acceptable, or attractive as the one you used to have is a lie perpetuated by diet culture, the media, and a whole host of companies that want you to think you have a problem so they can sell you a product to fix it.
For me, understanding this truth allowed me to pursue improvements to health and fitness from a place of self love. I’m able to make decisions about the food I consume and fitness I perform based on the feedback my body is giving me. I feel more fulfilled and energized when I eat things I love.
With the “get my body back” mindset I was pursuing fitness from a place of self hate. Feeling shame or guilt for the way I looked, what I ate, or the workouts I didn’t do resulted in trying to make my “wrongs” right with punishing actions, like food restriction or overexercising. So I’ve learned to pursue the things that make my body more capable of doing the things I want to do in life, and ditch the things that make me want to “go back”. Because let’s be honest... time has made me a total rockstar.

Twinning with my momma bear. If you were to simply look at my mom, you probably wouldn’t think she seems all that tough. Chances are she’s wearing bright colors, sparkling jewelry, fresh lipstick, and a beautiful smile (straight out of a Bollywood movie). But I’ll let you in on a little secret — beneath her feminine charms lies one strong woman.
It’s a quiet strength, which I believe to be her greatest gift. Her strength is the kind that builds people up rather than tearing them down. It’s the kind that inspires those around her to be more like themselves rather than more like her. It’s a kind that speaks of faith, hope, and love without a single word.

Yes, my mom is a powerful woman. Not because of any job title and not because of what she sacrificed. My mom is a powerful woman because she knows it’s not what you do in life that matters, it’s how you do it. When you live a life of faith, kindness, encouragement, optimism, and love, you can’t help but find success — on your own terms.

01/22/2019

Sometimes, growing into womanhood means to stop being a princess. When I was little, I dreamed of being a princess (and my parents sure treated me like one) It’s cute when you’re a kid, but not when you’re a grown woman. There are many things that you have to unlearn to evolve in to a woman. It’s hard to let go of the idea that a Prince Charming will come and save you from all the ills of the world- especially when you grow up watching Shahrukh khan movies (I mean your romance standards are pretty high)
It’s hard to digest that daddy won’t be spoiling you rotten and mommy won’t be telling you how amazing you are at EVERYTHING. And the worst part is you have to start caring about others and how your presence effects people around you. I still have a princess phases every now and then- that part of me complains, whines, blames others and wants to be constantly validated. However, I know that if I stay in that place, I will create so much drama and chaos in my life that I make the Kardashians seem amateur.

So as you become a wife and a mother, you have to start acting like a Queen and take charge of your life. You have to remove that tiara and place the crown on your head. You have to master yourself and create a kingdom you are proud of. As a Queen you have to offer value and radiate powerful energy. You will have to take risks and endure failures to live a good life.

So, which are you? I bet, if you’re like me, you have both energies. The question then becomes: which is leading your life?

Give that inner princess a hug, but let her know she’s no longer running the show.
