Maybe you’ve noticed these funky looking tulips in the bunches lately and wondered what they are, or if something is wrong with them?
Well, they are actually perfectly healthy and happy tulips! They are called parrot tulips and they are named for the unique look of their serrated petals which give them a kind of ruffled appearance - very similar to the feathers of a parrot! 🦜
In the video you can see how they appear closed, vs fully open! Total stunners!
Wagon is full! 💐 Saturday April 20th
Unfortunately (for me) and fortunately (for you) I got busy and wasn’t able to keep up on pulling tulips - so many are now “blown open” as we call it in the flower biz.
Although they are absolutely gorgeous at this stage outdoors or in a vase, they will not store well and will have a shorter vase life I like them to when putting together for bunches being sold to customers.
With that being said, they still have lots of life in them! I hate to compost them - so I am offering them to all of you at a deep discount.
💐 10 stems for $8 - limited number available. Color/variety may vary.
Porch pick up today or tomorrow morning. Comment below or message me directly to claim!
Petals on the porch 💐🌷 Friday April 12th, 9am - 3pm (or sold out)
“One flower in a glass vase can change the entire mood of the table just like one word from God can change an entire life” 💐
I hope all that celebrate had a wonderful Easter spent with loved ones rejoicing in the resurrection of Christ the Lord.
– Matthew 28:6
He is not here, for he has risen, just as he said ✝️🕊️
Not letting a little snow keep us from having fresh herbs for our supper 🌿
I was able to dig out and cut some thyme and lemon thyme, but unfortunately the rosemary has officially kicked the bucket for the season 🪣
Yesterday morning my son woke up with flu symptoms so I knew it was time to whip up a batch of elderberry syrup to help relieve his symptoms and for us to use to ward off catching the illness ourselves. Elderberry has been used medicinally for centuries as an immune supporting agent to fight against cold and flu symptoms, with evidence of its use going as far back at 400 B.C. in Ancient Greece. Studies have shown that these small dark berries are packed full of antioxidants, have anti-bacterial and anti-viral qualities, high levels of vitamin C as well as many other benefits. When making elderberry syrup, I also choose to use local pure raw honey for its added benefits. 100% pure raw honey is not only loaded with additional antioxidants, it also contains antibacterial and antifungal properties as well as a soothing effect for sore throats. One of the most important things to know when working with elderberries is that their seeds and stems do contain cyanide. Because of this, it is absolutely critical that the berries are heated at a high temperature or rolling boil and that the berries are strained through a sieve to prevent seeds from being ingested in the syrup. High temps may cause some nutrient loss, but not enough to remotely outweigh their benefit! The second most important part of this recipe is ensuring that the syrup has cooled sufficiently before added in your honey. The average internal temperature of a beehive in Ohio during summer is between 91 - 97 degrees F so adding the honey at temperatures higher than this will significantly decrease the nutrients and quality of the honey (by as much as 200% or more!). You want it to be warm enough to dissolve into the syrup, I have found mid 80s to be just right for this. Have you ever tried elderberry syrup before? Will you now? 🍇🍯 *this is meant to be informative and is not medical advice* #elderberrysyrup #elderberrybenefits #naturalmedicine #herbalmedicine #herbalist #fluseasonsucks

I will also have several of my dad’s large jade plants that he propagated and grew himself! He wanted me to remind you all that jade is a lucky plant. Jade traditionally symbolizes great friendship, luck and prosperity! They are also incredibly easy to care for as well, requiring one deep watering per week or when soil is dry.
So, you’ve got your ranunculus home in either your own vase or the one you purchased them with…. now what?!
Ranunculus are very delicate flowers, with an incredible vase life if well cared for. Due to their thin hollow stems, it is best not to use much more water than what allows the ends to stay fully submerged in order to avoid stem rot.
The best way to extend vase life is to trim the ends of each stem and change out to fresh water every other day! This is a great opportunity to check your water levels and stem health, as well as to really admire and appreciate those beautiful ever changing blooms!
When choosing flowers for each bunch, I try to choose all stages of opening - which also allows you the longest period of enjoyment from your bouquet. When one gets older or starts to fade or drop petals.. just toss it in the compost and display the others proudly! 🌸
The Ranunculus are really showing off now 🌸
I wish these would last all summer, but unfortunately we only have a few more weeks left with them.. the exact number of which is unknown. So make sure to get some while you can!
Bunches available: $15 wrapped or $17 with vase/jar
Dreaming of these beautiful blooms way back in October is what got me through the hard work of digging 8 inches deep into the cold hard Ohio ground. Transforming one of my dahlia beds into a tulip bed paid off wonderfully! The good part is FINALLY here folks 🌷
