A little late, but we have the results, and we would like to uplift our fantastic members who represented at The Big E! Please help us celebrate our members (and supporting families and volunteers!) who have taken the time and effort to enter and show at regional fairs. It is events like this that help demonstrate to our broader community that 4-H'ers are to step into the world with determination, devotion, and dedication! Congrats exhibitors!

Today we will celebrate the Beef category exhibitors. More categories to come later this week!

For the Beef Poster Contest, the Novice Division 1st Place was Sam Lounsbury, 2nd Place Bellah Carter, and 3rd Place Anne Lounsbury. Thank you for submitting!!

For the Beef Shows, Alexander Linnenbringer took home the Beef Sportsmanship Award, and James Linnenbringer and his Crossbred Heifer won Summer Yearling 2nd Place at the Beef Heifer Type Show. Congrats to Alex and James!!

To follow up with last week's , it is important for us to highlight our members and volunteers for their successes and learnings. An enormous THANK YOU to all the volunteers that collaborated together to create October 6th's 4-H Horse Show. It was a fantastic sunny day and a wonderful show starring our rising members. Another big shout out to Jaye Putnam for coordinating the show and sharing this write-up about the day:

"The Colts and Fillies 4-H Club held their annual fall horse show on October 6th. It was a beautiful day and the whole club worked together to put together a fun and challenging event. In addition to the competition, the Club also ran a food booth and a raffle. The food booth was organized by our volunteer and parent Wendy King and featured hamburgers, hotdogs (cooked by our parent/grill master Chris Beaulieu) and a variety of yummy crock pot meals provided by our 4-H families.

Our parent Amy Carrier organized the raffle and the whole club was responsible for finding items. Our community was extremely generous and the raffle had over 40 items and gift cards donated from individuals and local businesses. The most popular prizes were 10 bags of shavings secured by the Jacques family and a hunting blind secured by the Putnam family. The grand prize was a 3 tier saddle rack donated by Tractor Supply of Walpole, secured by the Carrier/Wakefield/Stetson family and won by a Cheshire County 4-H Alumni, Kevin Wirth.

Many of our members competed in the show. Anna Gauthier and Malaya Wakefield moved up a level and experienced their first cantering class. It was Mackenzie Ferron’s first show as a Colts and Fillies member. Eleanor Mann, Matilda Beaulieu and Brileigh Roffer showed off their posting and princess waves in the Cloverbud leadline division and Theodore Beaulieu and Levi rocked the Open Leadline division.

Lilly Gauthier rode off the leadline for the first time in a show, and then absolutely SMOKED the competition in the Walk/Trot Games leading the tiny but speedy Daisy. Maddy Amsden and her faithful Gus successfully competed against adults in all their classes. Aubree Putnam and Isla Dowst finished out their first year as Juniors, and had a lot of fun in the Open Gymkhana division. Marley King and Daisy showed off some cool moves in the In Hand division.

Luckily, we had members who were not able to show and chose to come help run the show. It's unusual for Daniela Rathke to sit out the Alstead show, but because of an injury, she was unable to ride. She graciously volunteered to be our Announcer for the day and allowed a younger member to use her horse in the show. Kyliegh Beaulieu had quite the adventure riding Dusty and won a Sportsmanship award for her efforts. Alyssa Smith helped several of the younger members with their horses and filled in as a lead line volunteer.

Sadie Andrews, Claire Bolton, Cassidy Wagster, Addison Wagster, Delani Putnam worked as ring masters, in the food booth and selling raffle tickets. They received many compliments for their hard work from those they served. We credit their salesmanship and customer service for the handsome profit the club made.

We had many other parents and family members help to make this day a success and we thank them all. We truly couldn't do it without their support!"

As we come to the end of fair season, many of us at UNH Extension and in the 4-H community are asking, "How can we make our own county fair even better next year?"

To ensure that everyone's needs and wants for next year's fair come to fruition, I ask everyone who attended or participated in the 4-H portion of the fair to please take 5-10 minutes to fill out the Cheshire Fair 4-H survey. Your feedback is important to creating the best fair Cheshire County has seen!
