Turret Arch

Turret Arch is an easily accessible arch not far from a parking lot in the windows area of Arches National Park which makes it a very popular destination while in the park.

This is a blended image. The arch was shot with a very long exposure because I didn't get there until well after dark and the sky was shot at the same location immediately after for 20 seconds.

Goosenecks State Park in Utah

It was a beautiful evening to watch sunset while I was at Goosenecks State Park in Utah early last month. I haven't had a chance to get many pictures posted from that trip but hopefully I will get some more posted soon.

The Northern Lights went crazy this past Thursday! I went to several different locations to try to get some foreground and some compositions that I liked. This was pretty much my last stop before I went home and crashed so that I could get up and go to work the next morning. Although it was a late night and an early morning it was absolutely worth it! This is one of a couple shots that I got that I liked.

Northern Parula

One of the fan favorites. These cute little warblers have a tendency to stay high in the trees but I was lucky enough to be able to spend at eye level with this one. They are always a treat to watch.

Blue-winged Warbler

I had the pleasure of capturing this Blue-winged warbler today in a photogenic setting. The flowering tree made a nice scene for this little one. This was a lifer for me today, even though they breed throughout Ohio.

Hardin County Ohio

I said only 1 more eclipse picture so here it is...

I created this composite image of the Hardin County Courthouse on April 8th. The only way to get an image like this is by making a composite because you have to shoot so wide to get the courthouse in the frame that the eclipse would look like a tiny speck in the picture. So I shot the courthouse with a wide angle lens and the eclipse at 600 mm then put the images together to show something that looked a little more like the image I had in mind.

Baily's Beads and Prominences

I was able to capture Baily's Beads yesterday as well as some prominences!

Baily's Beads is an effect that occurs when valleys in the moons terrain allows sunlight to pass through in some places just before the total phase of the eclipse.

Prominences are hot gas or plasma that is trapped in the magnetic field loops extending from the sun's surface. They are not uncommon but they are typically small in size and observing one during a solar eclipse is not exceptionally rare. However being able to view a prominence large enough to be seen with the naked eye during an eclipse is considered a remarkable event. I know many people got the chance to see the "red dot" near the edge of the sun yesterday.

I'm pretty excited to have been able to capture both of these in a single image.

Totality!!!

The high level thin clouds made a halo around the eclipsed sun during totality today which added a kinda cool and unique element to the eclipse image.

Still completely amazed seeing the total solar eclipse again for my second time. It's unlike anything I have ever seen.

Look what I found sitting on it's nest!

I have never knowingly seen a Sandhill Crane's nest before and definitely never found a Sandhill Crane on it's nest.
