❤️”The Top 3 Tasks to Complete the Night Before Your Wedding

Before tackling any day-of checklist items, there are a few tasks you'll need to get done in advance of your big day. Here, we list out three essential prep items to complete prior to marrying the love of your life.

✅ Pack an emergency kit.

You can't predict when an accident will happen, but you can be prepared to handle a crisis if one comes your way. That's why it's essential to pack an emergency kit, preferably before the morning of your wedding, so you can ensure you're equipped with everything you need in case of an emergency.

✅ Remind your wedding party of everything they need to bring the next day.

While you may have a plan for storing all your day-of outfits, your wedding party might need a reminder to do the same. McKellar explains, "For bridal parties or anyone who is changing, [their] original clothes are going to be somewhere. [Have them] bring something to put those clothes in so [they] can bring them home at the end of the night." Be sure to remind them of any accessories, makeup products, and other day-of items they'll need to have the morning of the wedding.

✅ Ensure everyone knows what tasks they have to complete the morning of the wedding.

Whether you're hiring a wedding planner or not, you should appoint several trusted individuals to take ownership of certain tasks, like bringing the rings to the venue, creating a playlist for when you're getting ready, keeping the bridesmaids and groomsmen on time, and even making sure you have something to eat and drink throughout the day. According to McKellar, you should also assign someone to gather pieces of décor, leftover favors, and other items after the reception. "Who is doing that, and are they clear on the range of what that includes?"

Here’s why couples choose to get married during these specific times of year.
By Lilly Blomquist Published on 11/15/23 09:10AM

One of the very first tasks you’ll cross off of your wedding to-do list is setting a date for your big day. However, given that there are 365 days in a calendar year, landing on one single date requires a bit of thought and effort, and an assessment of several determining factors such as venue and vendor availability, the weather, and personal schedules. That said, there are a few months many soon-to-be-weds repeatedly choose for their nuptials no matter the external circumstances. Otherwise known as wedding season, this portion of the year falls between May to October and is when a majority of couples typically designate as their time to say "I do."

Why are these months so popular? Well, they’re known to have temperate weather, stunning scenery, and longer days, among many other perks. But even with a slew of pros, there are some cons that come with getting married during this particular season. For instance, since many people flock to these dates for their big day, demand for locations and wedding professionals is higher, which can result in couples having trouble booking their favorite options. Plus, with more competition, prices tend to be more expensive.

MEET THE EXPERT
* Lea Stafford is the owner of Lea Stafford Events, a wedding and event planning and design company based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
* Natalie Pinney is the co-founder and lead planner of Whim Events, a luxury wedding and event planning company that orchestrates affairs in New England and other destinations.
* Sunna Yassin is the owner of Bash Please, a wedding and event production, styling, and design company that serves San Francisco, Los Angeles, and other destinations around the world.
Nonetheless, regardless of the pros and cons, we thought it might be helpful to unpack the most popular wedding months to consider for your union. Based on statistics from The Wedding Report and insights from industry professionals, here's everything you need to know about these sought-after time periods.

When Is Wedding Season?

October
According to statistics from The Wedding Report, 14.9 percent of all weddings in 2022 took place in October—that’s nearly three in 20 nuptials! This is likely due to the fact that a celebration during this month comes with the most picturesque setting, as this time of the year offers a breathtaking backdrop filled with colorful leaves (according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, foliage in New England, the Pacific Northwest, and the Blue Ridge Mountains is at or near its peak by mid-October). The scenic background leads to gorgeous décor options that channel the look and feel of the season, such as color palettes with jewel tones, tables covered in velvet linens, and centerpieces composed of golden leaves. Not to mention, couples can have fun creating an autumnal menu infused with flavors like apple, pumpkin, and maple.

Another draw is the weather: During this time of the year, most regions experience cooler temperatures. In Northern states, the chilly forecast brings a cozy feel to any affair, but in Southern states, it creates the perfect conditions for an outdoor event. Plus, planner Lea Stafford of Lea Stafford Events adds that there is less competition for venues, which means the chances of securing your dream locale are higher.

September
September comes at a close second, with 13.6 percent of nuptials in 2022 happening during this month. With balmy temperatures and prolific flora and fauna to work with, there’s no wonder why this time of the year is a favorable choice for to-be-weds. Since September marks the transition from summer to fall, it brings a newfound excitement that comes with the change of seasons.

There is also plenty of leeway in terms of your aesthetic: Depending on where and when you throw down, you could execute an autumnal affair or an end-of-summer bash. In New England, for instance, planner Natalie Pinney of Whim Events explains, “The weather is still beach-worthy but a little milder, yet guests are looking to soak in every last drop of sunshine.” This gives way to sunny outdoor ceremonies and tented receptions. As we get closer to daylight savings, the sun starts to set earlier in September, so this month casts a warm glow over any evening, perfect for sunset photos and romantic dining.

June
At 12.5 percent of 2022 weddings, June is the third most popular month to say “I do.” This time of the year kicks off the summer season, bringing with it longer days, warmer weather, more vivacious scenery, and more flexibility for travel. Since the sun sets later in the evening, Stafford notes that you’ll have ample sunlight for photos. And with milder temperatures and less humid conditions as opposed to later in the season, June weddings are ideal for outdoor festivities. Not only is the surrounding landscape in full bloom, but there are also many seasonal flowers available to use for your décor. Since most people don’t book big vacations until later in the summer, Pinney says more of your friends and family—both local and from out of town—will be able to attend.

May
May weddings are a fourth favorite with couples. According to The Wedding Report, 10.9 percent of weddings happened in May 2022. Spring is a favorable time of the year to get hitched, but in comparison to chilly March and rainy April, May provides temperate weather and blooming flowers, such as peonies, lily of the valley, orchids, and tulips, making it a top pick. According to Stafford, getting married in May brings good fortune to couples since it’s associated with growth and renewal. Besides the beautiful setting and auspicious benefits, May arrives just before the summer wedding craze, so hotels, venues, and airfare are more affordable in comparison, planner Sunna Yassin of Bash Please says.

July
The fifth most in-demand month to get married, according to The Wedding Report, is July, which saw 9.6 percent of weddings happen in 2022. Like June, this time of the year welcomes beautiful lighting for photo ops, in-season blossoms for decorations, and fresh produce for food and drink. However, July isn’t on par with June because the weather tends to be a bit hotter in most areas, which poses challenges for backyard fêtes, garden bashes, and other outdoor affairs. On that note, the forecast offers affordability in some regions: For instance, Yassin says July nuptials in Palm Springs often come with a price reduction.

August
The third summer month, August, is the sixth most popular wedding month, hitting the charts at 9 percent. August still provides all of the benefits of June and July, such as later sunsets, prolific settings, al fresco dining, and more room in guests’ schedules to travel. However, it falls just below its summer counterparts since this time of the year kicks off the beginning of hurricane season on the East Coast, so selecting a wedding date in August comes with some risks. August does have many perks, though: Couples who plan a wedding during this month often want to celebrate the last hurrah of summer, and there are plenty of options for venues.

“Weddings in August are popular for those who love a natural setting in the heart of summer—a coastal or beach destination, lush gardens, a working vineyard, or a family farm,” Pinney says.

✅ How Much Does the Average Wedding Cost in the United States?
Wedding planners across the country explain why the national average has become sky-high.
By Ellie Nan Storck Published on 07/05/23 09:50AM BRIDES

Here at Brides, we know that the price of a wedding is just as distinct as the wedding itself; a number determined by highly-personalized choices like hiring a planner, the guest count, venue, food and drink, décor, and much more, the cost of weddings vary significantly. For that reason, defining the exact average cost of a wedding in the U.S. is no easy task.

According to a report by CNN from June of 2023, the national average for wedding costs in 2023 is $29,000, with the number reaching $35,000 and over in some major cities. And while inflation is certainly a big factor in this hefty price tag, planners around the country note that this rising cost is also about the choices couples are making as they plan.

"Everything has increased at least 15 to 20 percent from where it was even last year," explains Heather Lowenthal of Posh Parties, a wedding planning company based in Palm Beach. "People are throwing weddings and they are going all out," she says.

So, what goes into this price tag? Here, wedding planners across the U.S. break down what, exactly, is contributing to the rising cost of weddings

Inflation and Increased Demand
"There are a few factors for the increasing cost of weddings," says Gretchen Culver of Rocket Science Events, a Minneapolis-based wedding planning company. "First, things just cost more. The pandemic upended our industry and, coupled with inflation, we are seeing costs of items, such as florals, increase four times or six times what we were spending in 2019 and 2020." Culver goes on to explain that a notable labor shortage continues to drive costs for rentals, food and beverage services, and transportation. "Every segment of the industry is dealing with something (or things) that are impacting the bottom line," she says.

Choosing Quality Over Quantity
Darryl Moore, the founder of Houston-based D’Concierge Weddings, notes that while wedding budgets are highly variable, many of his clients have become very discerning about which wedding elements they spend their money on. "I've noticed a definite trend towards prioritizing certain aspects of the wedding, particularly photography, and food and beverages," he says. "I find it heartening to see my clients focusing on the elements of their wedding that truly matter to them. Whether it's hiring a top-notch photographer to capture their special day, or investing in an exceptional culinary experience for their guests, it's clear that quality is being prioritized over quantity." With the trending quality-over-quantity philosophy, it's only natural that the average cost is increasing.

The "Wow" Factor
Many planners attribute the steep cost of weddings to couples wanting a "wow factor" for their guests. Both Erica Estrada of Erica Estrada Design, based in San Francisco, and Akeshi Akinseye of Chicago-based Kesh Events note that couples are keen to personalize their event to the max. "More couples want their wedding to be a reflection of their unique style, story, and personalities," explains Akinseye. "This is a beautiful touch to any wedding celebration but often means custom solutions, which can add to the cost." She also notes that many couples want to create an unforgettable experience for their guests.

"This may include elaborate entertainment for multi-day celebrations [and] high-end catering, décor, and details."

Culver is also observing that couples simply want more as they plan. "They are seeing these incredible weddings on social media and Pinterest, and they want the same level of design, experience, and so forth," she explains.

Guest Counts
During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic and the year following, guest counts were, naturally, much lower due to safety precautions and venue restrictions. However, with the wedding boom and event planning back in full swing, planners across the U.S. agree that an increase in the guest count is certainly a major factor in the rising average cost of a wedding. Weddings may not be as enormous as they were 10 years ago (over 300, for example, is less common now) but with venue restrictions lifted, couples are excited to celebrate with all their loved ones.

"I do think [many] couples are being more intentional about who they are inviting to their events, but there are still many that invite everyone they know," says Reena Maheshwari of Kahani Events & Design, based in Minnesota. Pre-pandemic, Maheshwari's events hovered around 300-plus; now they're typically sub-200, but with the rising costs for industry goods and services, the overall cost is still on an upwards trajectory.

Moore says that in Houston, Texas, where he is based, the typical weddings he plans range from about 125 to 300 guests, "given that our southern communities tend to have extensive networks of family and friends," he explains

For Culver, guest counts for her events are definitely on the rise. "I am now seeing guest lists coming in over 200 whereas in the last few years, the guest lists were a lot smaller—150 or less," she says. "This makes sense coming out of the pandemic, but makes it hard to compare costs if you are looking at budget numbers of smaller weddings."

Increased Venue Rates
While choosing to get married at home or at a free venue (like a public park) will cut back costs significantly, many couples are still opting for a traditional venue—and venue fees are higher than ever. "Venue costs have gone up, and it seems like for most of the newer, better, modern, and popular venues, these days you should expect to pay $10k [when you] walk in the door with the venue as is," explains Dana Allison of Keyed Up Events based in Minneapolis. She notes that the base price is simply higher than it once was—and that's before add-ons like an on-site coordinator or beverage service.
