Our first garden has been working hard for us for 7 years. While I would cover crop some rows at various moments of the season, I haven’t given the soil proper love and rest. This season we rotated 3 rounds of cover crop through it.

It started with mustard, seen in this pic. We have had an increase in fungal issues over the years, and I hoped the biofumigation from the mustard would help. Part of the process is watering and tilling in the mustard. We had been no till for a few years, but we are starting to see occasional tilling is helpful in certain circumstances.

We then grew a round of buckwheat in which we harvested dozens of bunches of flowers for our weddings and wholesale. We tilled that in to have enough time to get a decent crop of rye vetch. Next year we will allow half the rye rows to grow to tarp for mulch. The other half will be tarped right away to plant spring flowers into.

I’m looking forward to see how the crops look next year. More pics in our stories from the process!

This has been one challenging week to progress through. I think I’m pretty much on the other side of the stages of grief at this point. While I tried limiting my social media use the last few days, I did see a number of posts that were hopeful and uplifting.

Every day I go to work with other incredible educators who are choosing kindness and doing what we can to help youth. Working in education isn’t easy but it does help fill my bucket and give me hope.

Another beautiful opportunity in my life is having people in love trust me to help make their wedding day special. Creating art for these special celebrations yet again fills me with hope. Everyone is treated equal here regardless of race, sexual identity, disability, or religious belief. Unless you choose hate, you can get lost.

It’s finally here, and it may be the most important election ever.

I just read a chapter about self-determination for my grad class. Self-determination is ones ability to make decisions for themselves, and this opportunity can lead to a higher quality of life.

This opportunity is partially at stake this election. Think about what rights you hope and expect your children and loved ones to have going forward.

I know I have a long day of obligations, but I know there are poll workers open until 8 tonight and I wouldn’t miss this vote for anything. Let’s make this a priority folks!

I’m booking for 2025 floral design! 💜

September always fills up first, but I still have some dates open. May/June is my favorite flower season for all you spring lovers! This pale purple spring palette was so fun from a few years ago.

Rolling the clocks back gives me one extra hour today to be productive! First up proposal writing, then my classwork, and hopefully getting the peonies in the ground. Enjoy your Sunday all.

The fall shift is well under way!

Now that frost has come it’s time for digging up and storing dahlia tubers. We have tulips, peonies, and other spring bulbs to plant. A final bird coop clean up and winterizing. Not to mention a few other projects including reinforcing the deer fence to avoid any snow pile up.

It always feels like things should slow down after the frost kills the flowers, but there it’s always a push to the end!

This cozy scene is from Thanksgiving 2021. I can’t believe it has already been almost 3 years. Thanksgiving seems about the time the farming hustle slows down for me.

We have one last wedding in late October, and we are leaning into seasonality hard. Acorns will be a feature, and it just so happens to be a mast year for oak trees. There are loads of them!

Happy Anniversary J+B!!

Some of you have heard me gush about this day before. It was so beautiful and pretty special for me as well!

First off, these two are a dream to work with. When Jess and I first met in person on their big day we both went in for a hug, feeling like old friends.

Their wedding was held in my home town, and an old friend of mine helped and it was amazing to hang with her!

Then look at all this glorious color! So much fun!

Spending the day finishing up a couple garden projects, and trying to finish my book before school starts tomorrow!

The beginning is certainly near when you wake up thinking about strategies for managing student behaviors. The class I’m taking this semester is Individualized Positive Behavior Supports. I felt it the most relevant to my day in the classroom.

This pic just puts a smile on my face. It’s a teaser for a pretty awesome couple’s anniversary. 😏

Bounty O’ Blooms

With the purchase of a property overlooking the S**o River, we immediately went to work transforming a shrubby woodlot. Opening up the land to more sunshine and feeding the soil were first on the list. After planting a young orchard and establishing numerous gardens our hard work was rewarded by tall healthy plants and bucket loads of flowers! As the flowers bloomed with such abundance we decided to start Bounty O' Blooms.

We offer full service floral design using flowers grown mostly on our property and nearby farms, and occasionally selected from a wholesaler. We also offer buckets full of flowers and foliage from colors in your palette, or a mix of both buckets and our design work. Our Flower CSA runs for 5 weeks starting in July.

Sarah has ten years of farming experience, five of which she has been playing with flower design. She works full time during the school year as a teaching assistant. When she isn’t in the gardens she works part time taking kids at camp on wilderness trips.

Andy works full time as an accounting specialist. He is entering his 5th year as the head coach of a high school football team. His landscaping and building experience helps round out the skills of the team.
