What a crazy month May has been.

It’s been a complete blur if I can be honest. I’ve been traveling to San Francisco for Beethoven’s 9th and competing at GSVC, and even rushing through my birthday. I haven’t had a second to reflect.

I graduated and I’m so grateful for everything. The hard times that sharpened me, the lonely celebrations, and the endless successes.

What’s next for me? Who knows. More recitals. Maybe grad school. More performing. More competition. More French coaching 😭. I just want more.

I don’t know much but, all I know is that the world is open and waiting and I’m ready to get out there and explore.

2024 GSVC Finals

On the day of the finals concert I was allowed to pick anything I wanted. I went back and forth between three of my pieces. One I sang multiple times, one I sang once, and one I didn’t sing at all.

I even called my voice teacher in a panic, and she immediately texted me even though she was in a lesson. I narrowed it down to two. Even standing at the door with my accompanist I changed my mind between them back and forth, back and forth.

I closed my eyes, I prayed and thought about why I do what I do and my heart felt moved seconds before I stepped on stage to choose.

In her composer notes for Then, Here and Now Dr. Powell calls for her work to be used as light for people everywhere experiencing injustices. In all of the excitement of graduation season, competition season and life, in that moment to speak on two injustices that have had my focus, the Sudan and Haiti.

Whew what a weekend.

I had a wonderful time at the George Shirley competition and was blessed to be awarded the JayRedKoh award and to receive recognition in my need to share with the world the art and experiences of Black q***r people.

I learned so much, but I really loved seeing my former voice teacher Dr. G, interacting with his classmates and his voice teacher, Dr. Shirley.

Thank you and Seiko for choosing me to receive this award.

Thank you for being willing to create art with me and giving me the opportunity to be a vessel for your work. It has been a joy to share space with you and to create with you. Thank you for being my mentor, forgiving me words of encouragement and continuing to believe in me.

Thank you for an incredible masterclass. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to learn from you and how I can continue improving expressing myself in earnest.

Thank you to my mom for helping me get there, and thank you to my partner for supporting me this entire year, doing my recordings and listening to me complain lol.

While it is likely that I won’t return next year, I am incredibly grateful for everything that I have learned and all of the friends I have made. I’m looking forward to working even harder this year.

The announcement is here!!

After a little tiny (two week) break after recitals and concerts and shows I am happy to announce the things that I’ve got coming up in the next couple of months.

My next upcoming event I’m getting back in the saddle and coming home to !! Norco was such a big part of shaping me into the activist and performer that I am today.

I was overjoyed when I was invited to come back and give a quick recital along with a q&a about transferring as a music student, working as an opera singer, and graduating with a BM.

I can’t believe it’s finally over.

3 years of fighting and struggling and failing and succeeding lead to this moment. It took me a day to really sit with myself to figure out what I wanted to say.

If you know me—or any singer really—you know that I am relentlessly hard on myself. The night of I couldn’t stop obsessing over how many dumb mistakes I made. How there were things that I didn’t do that I really wanted to do. I struggled to appreciate what I had done.

Today, with fresher eyes and an open mind I watched my recital back, and I’m proud. 4 arias, 4 languages, new music, 18 songs just a marathon of vocal agility and I did it.

These 3 years I’ve learned so much about myself, my instrument, and the industry. I achieved dreams and goals that I never thought possible, dreams I didn’t even know I was dreaming.

Thank you to everyone who came. Thank you to my mom for helping me with such an amazing reception and who has always supported me. Thank you to my incredible mentor and voice teacher Krystle who trusted me with planning and selecting music for this recital. Thank you to my partner for just loving me and being incredibly supportive.

I don’t know what’s next, but I’m ready to say goodbye and learn new things.

I had an amazing dress rehearsal today and I’m so excited to present this! Curious about what’s on it? Well I want to keep some surprises but here are all the composers!

Wow. I didn’t expect to be impacted by a show so much. I’m really greatful for the encouragement and opportunity to portray such an incredible force of a woman.

Never in my wildest of dreams did I think of being on an all femme team, in a show about women, who were incredible humans.

I don’t usually get the post show blues but I will miss the feeling of laughter and comfort from these amazing humans.

After a much anticipated wait I’m excited to finally give my senior recital. I was supposed to present last year, but I unfortunately broke my foot in two places causing me to push it back.

It’s bittersweet to know this will be the last time I perform at Cal State Fullerton, but I’m excited to leave knowing I became a better musician at the end of the day.

So come see me tackle 4 arias, an incredible song cycle that was written for me and a myriad of art songs in between.

I hope to see you all March 29th at 6pm in the recital hall!

You guys dreams do come true I met the Beyoncé of skating at .

It was such an incredible experience I really enjoyed myself, I got some awesome tips to step up my backwards skating and transitions and the atmosphere was absolutely incredible.

My birthday was on the 26th and I didn’t really have the energy to thank everyone and talk about my goals and what this birthday means to be because I was so sick.

This is the last year of my 20s and I want to spend this year saying yes.

Yes to friendship
Yes to new experiences
Yes to confidence
Yes to impossible things
🥴 yes to more French rep

But most importantly I want to say Yes to myself and self-love. I am so proud of the community I’ve been able to build around me and I am looking forward to taking fall by storm.

In the meanwhile, I’m open to hanging out this summer if you’re in the SoCal area! Hit me up.

Here’s to a year of yes for the final year of my 20s.

I’ve been ill for the past two weeks and the one thing I really missed was skating. I’m so blessed to be able to go now, not just because of the sickness but because of COVID. I went to this really cool skate rink , I loved watching everyone and I’m looking forward to going again.

A great way to relax before finals. Headed down to Long Beach today to attempt trail skating with my skate friend . We had boss ass time, fell in front of some people and I’m looking forward to the next one.

Let’s talk about imposter syndrome.

The most impossible thing happened. Through the pandemic and struggling with depression and the transfer gap, I genuinely didn’t expect to be noticed or given anything. In fact, it took some encouragement on behalf of my fantastic friends to even apply for these scholarships because I kept...feeling like “Why would I waste their time I haven’t accomplished anything worth while in my year here”

And yet somehow, they recognized me. I’m just floored and honestly it feels like I got away with a scam.

It’s my 21st day of skating and with my birthday at the end of the month I decided to treat myself to a pair of and I absolutely love them! They’re a little heavy but they’re so sturdy and it honestly didn’t feel like work breaking them in.
