Bard Theatre Tentucky Festival Submission Guidelines:
• Playwrights must be a native of KY or current resident of KY (adjacent counties in Indiana and Ohio are accepted)
• Plays should not have received more than 1 professional production in the Louisville, KY area.
• Playwrights may submit up to 2 scripts...so send your best!
• Plays are expected to be 8-12 minutes. Plays noticeably shorter or longer than that window will not be considered
• Formatting--
-PDF, MS Word, or Google Doc
-Title page with the play’s title and playwright’s name (no page number)
-A second page with character listings & descriptions, scenic description, production history if applicable, and a playwright bio that’s 100-200 words (no page number)
-Page numbers for the play itself
-12-pt font and 1-inch margins
-The play itself should be 8-13 pages
• If you have submitted the last two years, those submissions will also be considered for 2024

All genres accepted; however, plays with inordinate amounts of technical requirements are rarely selected. Our focus is on the play--the story, the performance of it. If your 10-minute play has numerous scene changes, elaborate lighting needs, or a live band from Tupelo, we will probably think it is fascinating, but we won't be able to produce it.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT:
As you all know this weekend, we will be doing a staged reading of The Kings of Christmas. This won’t be just any staged reading, though! There will be boots! There will be magic! And there will be so much laughter you just might p*e yourself (sorry Kennedy).
Doug wrote The Kings of Christmas several years ago. He also directed acted in it every year since its debut on the Bard stage. Over the years, the show has become an incredibly beloved Louisville holiday tradition. Doug put so much love, joy, and ridiculousness into this show and it warmed him to know that so many folks wanted to share their holidays with the Kings every year. All of us at The Bard knew that we wanted to keep this wonderful show going, even though we’ll all have a blue Christmas without him here with us.
We decided to have two wonderful actors step into new roles this year. Co-Owner and long time Bard family member, Corey Music, will be saying goodbye to Carter King, the role he has been playing for the last eight years. This year he will be stepping into the roles of Frank and Stein King. We know he will bring just as much fun and passion to the roles as Doug did. New to The Kings of Christmas, but longtime friend and family of The Bard is Lee Stein. If you are a Bard Theatre regular, then you will have seen him on our stage multiple times before. We are so excited for audiences to get to see his take on the infamous, Carter King. We are also overjoyed to welcome back Meghan Logue Holland as Wendy. Rounding out this incredible group of folks, and returning to their roles areTony Smith as Clinton, Joey Eberling as Kennedy, and Abby Braune as Carol/Sylvia.
Get your tickets while you can and come have a boot with us!
