Yes, I'm a dinosaur. I shot my first wedding at 17 for classmate sweethearts. I've shot around a 1,000+ since. There were stretches where I was covering 50+ full weddings year after year and in states across the USA. I had become a true Pro. Then came digital and with smart camera assistance, the competition grew. No longer did you have to know true photography, the camera did it for you. Just set to Automatic. You didn't have to wait for days on results to know you were right. You had a window that let you know shot by shot. If you were wrong, delete and reshoot. And if your window was off, you had Photoshop to correct your mistakes. No longer were you burdened with the cost and availability of film and processing, you could just shoot 300, 400 or even 1,000+ images for free. Shoot everything and everyone, multiple times, figuring the odds were good that you had 100-200 images that would be album worthy. Then the financial crash of 2010 saw every soccer Mom with a camera jump into the "biz" either to help their family financially or to help a struggling neighbor afford their wedding by shooting it for rock bottom prices or free for family. Aunt Susie has a good camera became a thing. Even entry level cameras came with a “Pro” license. Or so they thought. Now there are more people trying to make ends meet again. There are now more "photographers" touting their services than grains of sand on the beach. Everyone with a consumer level camera or cell phone is now a “Photographer”. No off camera or strobe flash. They call themselves,”Fine Art” photographers, only shooting with existing light. And usually without any backup camera, of any kind and hopefully (not necessarily) more than one lens.
I promised my Brides an album, or book, with 200-250 quality images. I would shoot 260 frames of film and their book had 250+ photos, without Photoshop. I come fully equipped with backups and multiple lights, flashes, and lenses. I am insured.
I still offer that quality and consistency sharpened by decades of experience shooting in every difficult lighting situation imaginable and never having let a bride down, never been late, never no-showed. I can now offer my Bides the assurance of high-quality coverage and peace of mind with confidence, built on years of proven success.
