Fun Flower Fact Friday!

I'm sure most people will recognize this beauty! She's often a star in bridal bouquets, but allow us to reintroduce you to the Anemone!

Anemone plants are nyctinastic, which means they open to face the sun during the day and turn their heads down at night. According to folklore, faries nap in the downturned blossoms, flitting away when the sun’s rays persuade the flowers to reach skyward again.

They keep growing even after they’re cut. They have no scent, and can be dried.

Another common name, Adonis flower, is from a Greek myth that red Anemone flowers sprang to life from drops of the god’s blood as he lay dying from being attacked by a wild boar.

Anemone flowers are sometimes used to represent forgotten love or even death. In some cultures, they are said to keep away evil spirits. On a much lighter note, they can also be a symbol of love, happiness or sincerity.

Fun Flower Fact Friday:

What looks like a dandelion, but isn't?! It's ALLIUM, or if you want, you can call her "Giant Onion."

The actual flowers are star-shaped and tiny–up to 100 may make up the sphere of blooms on a single stalk. The flowers’ fragrance is light and similar to violets’, but when the stalk is cut or bruised, Allium gives off a strong scent which proves that it is indeed a giant onion.

The Romans loved Allium, garlic and their tasty brethren, and are credited with spreading the bulbs’ cultivation and use wherever they marched.

Traditional Chinese medicine uses Allium to reduce blood ailments like hypertension and arteriosclerosis.

Allium flowers are used to symbolize good fortune, unity, patience and grace.

Fun Flower Fact Friday!!

Meet Agapanthus! Another name you may hear in regards to Agapanthus is: African lily, blue lily, and lily of the Nile - but they aren't actually related to the lily at all, BUT TO GARLIC!

Celebrated for their striking, linear dimension and romantic appeal, Agapanthus species—also known as “flowers of love” in Greek—are hardy perennials that are available in various shades of blue, white and pink.

Given the meaning of its genus name, Agapanthus is often used to symbolize love. It has also been seen as an emblem of beauty, purity and fertility.

Product Highlight!

I’m sure most everyone is familiar with the Willow Tree Angel brand! We offer a majority of the Sympathy line.

Willow Tree is described via their website as an “intimate line of figurative sculptures that speak in quiet ways to heal, comfort, protect and inspire. Artist Susan’s Lordi hand carves the original of each figure from her studio in Kansas City, Missouri. Pieces are cast from her original carvings, and individually painted by hand. Expression is revealed through gestures only… a tilt of the head placement of the hands, a turn of the body. A form an absence of facial features signify Willow Tree. It is Susan’s hope that these pieces be meaningful to both giver and receiver.”

Today we are sharing Acacia, more popularly known as Mimosa Flower!

I mean, how cute?!

This plant’s essential oil is used in aromatherapy to promote a sense of calm, symbolizes secret love, and the tree itself can grow up to 100’ tall!

Our favorite fact: it’s a member of the legume family and is related to peanuts! Who knew?!

Fun Flower Fact Friday!

This is Achillea, better known as yarrow - but another name it goes by is "Old Man's Pepper".

The plant’s genus name is reportedly derived from one of the great heroes of Greek mythology, Achilles, who is said to have carried Achillea for treating battle wounds. While Achilles has been largely credited for the plant’s discovery and use, some evidence suggests that its use dates back to the Neanderthals around 40,000 years ago.

This flower is also said to symbolize "everlasting love."
