The nighttime temps have been on the verge of frost for well over a week now, and my farm still hasn’t gotten bit. The forecast is looking like I could still have dahlias into October! I’m enjoying every one while they last, and tying up the ends of my bouquet subscriptions.

Finally starting to see some exciting blooms on my pastel zinnias from . Rather than cutting for bouquets this year, my focus is on saving seeds from these plants in order to have an abundance to cut from next season. Really loving the peachy buff blooms.

It’s been a rough year for many things this season, dahlias being one. I was able to acquire many highly sought after varieties, and a few I had been after for a couple of years. But the weather, soil issues, pest pressure, and late planting have done a number on the dahlias and at this point I am just hoping for good tubers that will store well for next year, and considering blooms a bonus. I didn’t even pinch the plants because they seemed so far behind where they should be. Sad that I won’t have as many flowers this year, but so happy about the ones I do have. The first two blooms of the year: Bloomquist Ginnie and Kelgai Ann. 🥰

I’ve been considering this for several months, and now that we have an abundance of summer blooms, I am happy to announce the launch of our Pay-it-Forward Program! Flowers are scientifically proven to lift mood, improve mental well-being, and even help hospital patients heal quicker, among many other benefits. I personally have experienced the joy of having fresh flowers in my space, and I want to share that joy with as many people as possible. If you have an individual in mind you would like to nominate for a free bouquet, you can go to the website riverknollfarm.square.site, select the NOMINATE listing, and enter the name and address of the person you’d like to nominate for a free bouquet. Delivery is on me. (Within Sanpete County only, please).
If you would like to donate to the program, go to the website and select the DONATE listing, select the amount you’d like to donate, and checkout. You can nominate a person with your donation, but a nomination is not required to donate. Likewise, a donation is not required to nominate.
Thank you for helping me to share the joy of fresh flowers with more people in my community who need it!

This is 30. This birthday has been looming over me for some time. I’m still not sure what to think about it. I believe that aging is a privilege, but I’ve been trained since childhood to avoid turning 30. Silly of course. I didn’t spend my 20s in the typical way. Almost the entire decade was spent raising children and putting down roots, along with many other unexpected and wonderful experiences. I’m happy with where I am at this point. I hope my thirties bring me more delightful surprises.

How often do you buy flowers just for yourself to enjoy? I’ll admit, until a few years ago my answer was never. I was in a hard transition in my motherhood journey, unhappy with our living situation, and struggling with my mental health. In 2020 we bought our house (greatly improving that aspect of my life), and in spring 2021 I had a traumatic emergency c section with my third baby, and 5 weeks later learned he had a birth defect that would require a big surgery the following year. That same spring he was born, I became a subscription customer of a new flower farmer in my area. I absolutely loved having something so beautiful to look forward to twice a month, to enjoy in my beautiful new home, while making peace with the medical diagnosis of my beautiful new baby, and learning grace for my new post c section body. 2021 was the year I learned just how powerful something as simple as locally grown fresh flowers could be for my emotional well being. The new flower farmer quickly became a dear friend, mentoring me as I dove into learning how to grow flowers in my new landscape. And now I am sharing the joy of flowers I grow myself. Thanks for being here. I’d love to get you some flowers. 💐

PS. Flower farmer friend is Torrie and her husband Matt, . They are the best.

This is looking like possibly the last week for tulips. Charlee’s is stocked up! You can find our flowers there everyday, Tuesday through Saturday. I hear today is Taco Tuesday 😋 Mother’s Day is Sunday! A bouquet of locally grown hand tied flowers is a must, a hand delivered monthly bouquet subscription is even better!

My favorite tulip really needed a moment in the spotlight this year. Jonquieres is a fluffy double that starts out white with some dark pink marks on the tips, but as it opens the pink bleeds down into the petals, and then you see the black stamens. It’s drop dead gorgeous. Their shape reminds me of peonies, but I’ve never seen a peony with this coloring. I have a tendency to hoard them for myself 😅 I’m also loving these white ranunculus from and eucalyptus.
