Rick Soliman and his brother Shawn were the original SmokeHunters BBQ Team. The origin of the team name comes from Shawn and Rick's enjoyment of waterfowl hunting and their love of smoking wild game. In 2008, Shawn could no longer spend weekends at competitions, so Jim Rohr, Rick's father-in-law joined the team. In 2012, Jim D. Rohr, Rick's brother-in-law was recruited to the team. Since 2012 the

team competes under the parent company The Smoke Hunters, Inc. based in Plainfield IL. The Smoke Hunters have won individual meat category titles in several competitions and have 5 Reserve Championships and 3 Grand Championships to date. In 2013, The SmokeHunters Inc. expanded operations to Louisville, Kentucky where Thomas and Jennifer Willis; Rick's brother and sister in law are the newest additions to the team. The Smoke Hunters Competition BBQ Team competes in six states - Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri and Kentucky - and manages a Catering division in northern Illinois.
