August is hard for farmers in the low country. The heat, bugs, and this year, the flooding made for a discouraging month. Lots of loss.

But we got through August!

And September is always brighter. It may not be fall yet, but the mornings will get cooler and the humidity will start to lower. And we'll be planting and watering, weeding and mulching to keep the flowers growing.

Thanks to our customers for showing up each week inspite of the heat. We appreciate it, it keeps us going!

Just had to share some photos of the arrangements at the market today. They are pretty fantastic!
We've been getting creative and using some unique ingredients in our arrangements this season. Like the begonia leaves. They arrange like a dramatic flower and we are loving them! We've heard that our customers are loving the coleus too; they add so much color.
Be sure to get to the market early, because the best ones go fast. And yes, we'll have hand-bunches too- we know you love them! 😁

With all the rain and wind of the past week our flowers sure took a beating.
On his weekly trek around the property to gather greenery for us (everyone needs a Maxie around, he's so helpful!), Maxie hunted through the greenhouses and found some beautiful foliage for us. It was a treat to arrange with the new shapes and textures. Look for some fun surprises in your arrangement this week!

Pro tip: These begonia and coleus are easy to propagate! Don't toss them when the arrangement is spent, just add fresh water and look for roots to sprout in a few weeks.

In case you've been wondering- YES! we'll be at the Summerville Farmers Market tomorrow as usual. 8am -1pm

Elderberry is one of those flowers we grow but don’t show up in our arrangements. That’s because with a little patience, those lovely lacy blooms transform into beautiful dark berries packed with vitamins. We like to store them for syrup in the winter; it’s healthy and delicious!

Learn how to make elderberry syrup with this easy recipe and just a few simple ingredients. Discover elderberry health benefits and uses!

Did you know?! What a great idea!

Makin’ some Queen Anne’s lace jelly today. Yep. Ya can do that. QAL is a wild carrot and is edible from top to bottom. The jelly tastes sweet, delicate, floral, with a teeeny hint of carrot goodness. I add lemon zest to mine to punch it up. QAL also makes a nice fritter!

Make sure when pickin’ ya got the real deal and NOT poison hemlock. Remember, the queen has hairy legs (hairy stem) and often has a purple flower in the center.

How-to and recipe video comin’ soon! ☀️

*QAL is not recommended for folks who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant.

Have you been wondering?

What’s with our new look?

You probably know Elizabeth (Beth). She’s the original Flower Peddler. She bought her own mini farm in Holly Hill, South Carolina in 2007. Since then she’s been planting, pruning, and peddling her flowers all over the Charleston area.

You’ve probably seen her at the Summerville Farmer’s Market; she’s been a regular there for 5 years. She is happiest in her garden with her hands in the dirt and her dogs by her side. She is not computer savvy.

That’s where I come in...
