MUSTANG WRESTLERS IN THE NEWS - ON WORLD WRESTLING DAY!!!

We are excited to announce that FIVE of our female Mora Mustang Wrestlers have recieved an opportunity to represent team Minnesota during the Girls National Duals!!! Congratulations to Shelby Strandlund, Bridget Bankers, Ava Showers, Orion Hammel & Nora Houglum.

Although some are not able to participate in Indiana or Oklahoma due to scheduling conflicts - What an incredible display of our program. Attending or not, congratulations on your selection out of the many MN wrestlers who applied. Our program is growing, not only with wrestling but with the leadership that you each of you provide. Again, congratulations and enjoy the experience, you’ve earned it!

Forty three wrestlers, representing twenty three teams, and our lone wrestler was one of four individuals with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

& With the conclusion of the state tournament down in Rochester, our freestyle season with Vanguard Wrestling Academy is in the books!

R1: Houglum over Krause (TF 10-0)
R2, Semis: Houglum over Guerra-Gua (TF 10-0)
R3, Finals: Akpan over Houglum (TF 10-0)

Although there were 8-10 girls in the practice room at various times, Houglum was our lone competing wrestler, traveling to and from various tournaments this past spring. Congratulations on a fantastic season of freestyle Nora!!!

Today was spring signing day at Mora High School… Athletic Director Charles Whitbred did an OUTSTANDING job recognizing those at MHS who would be continuing both their academics and athletics… Hard work, dedication and perseverance got you all to where you are today and we couldn’t be prouder of each and every athlete, regardless of their activity.

We’d also like to give a special shout out to our THREE girls wrestling seniors. It’s not often a program has all of its graduates continuing their academics AND athletics! Another program first, and certainly something that doesn’t happen often. Congratulations on your accomplishment ladies. We can’t wait to see the places you will go & the mountains you will move!

This would be HUGE!!! What are your thoughts?! Think the MSHSL will follow suit???

The NFHS (www.nhfs.org) has proposed MAJOR CHANGES to High School Wrestling Rules for the 24-25 season. It is unsure if the MSHSL will adopt these changes.

- Wrestlers will be inbounds with only one point of contact of either wrestler inside or on the boundary line.
- 3 Point Takedown
- 2, 3, and 4 near fall points per second of exposure

These fundamental change to high school wrestling were some of the six major changes impacting almost 30 rules recommended by the NFHS Wrestling Rules Committee.
