As we celebrate the birthday of one of history’s most honorable revolutionaries, let’s take a moment to contrast the priorities of capitalism with socialism.

While Pittsburgh, a city with only few hundred thousand people, spends $115 million annually on police, Cuba's whole defense budget for a population of more than 11 million people is only $128 million.

Unlike the US, where hundreds of billions of dollars go to military and police budgets annually for imperialist wars and interventions around the world and for racist police terror within US, Cuba, on the other hand and despite the criminal US blockade, uses part of its resources to send thousands of doctors and medical personnel to help other nations in need, a true act of solidarity.

Cuba is a socialist state, where the working class is in power following the victorious 1959 revolution, led by Fidel, Che and the guerrilla army composed mostly of peasants who overthrew the US backed dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.

Capitalism uses police domestically and military internationally to enforce the rule of finance capital over people while socialism puts the needs of the people over profits.
