What is art?

We human beings have debated this question since we were drawing murals on the inside of caves. A simple definition has always escaped us.

It is an expression, an action, a thing, and a thought all wrapped up in one. It is passion but also precision. It is innately personal but also communal. It is solid but also ephemeral. It certainly does not have to just hang on a wall.

Here at Arts District Studio, we aren’t so interested in the answer as we are in the question itself: What is art? In the upcoming weeks, we’d like to explore that question through our THE ART OF… series. Stay tuned this week for our first post, where we look at the most illuminating piece of art of all!

Merry Christmas Eve! In honor of a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Past, here are some treasured photographs depicting the history of Christmas Mountain before it was displayed in our window.

Included are pictures of the display at The Elms, several of the children invited to come see it and receive a personalized ornament, and a photo of Esther’s mom, Alma (with a friend and young girl), who first created the magic of Christmas Mountain.
