Born to Bake

When I was a little girl, I always watched every move my mom made in the kitchen. Just itching to touch that kitchen-aid mixer! I am pretty sure that she knew that the second I got my hands on that thing, it would be mine! I remember always begging her to let me make the next birthday cake or the next batch of cookies. I was probably nine or ten when she finally said YES. A day, I am sure, she proudly regretted. (I LOVE YOU MOM!) I took over just about all baking duties that day forward.

I know this feeling all to well now. I am a mom to three beautiful girls who are (almost) nine, six, and two, and my oldest is constantly begging me to touch that kitchen-aid mixer! (Good thing I have several!) I dread the day one of them will take over my kitchen, but I would be proud. Proud because they will be learning and passing down traditions, recipes, and love.

I grew up baking side-by-side with my Polish grandma. Making Kruschiki, Kolacky, Paczki, Babka and many other cookies, cakes, and PIZZA! Baking with her is my favorite tradition. Especially now that my girls get to take my place next to her and learn! Kruschiki for my birthday, Babka for Easter, Kolacky for Christmas and Paczki for fat tuesday. My grandma is the reason I feel that it is so important for my kids to take over my kitchen one day.

To be continued...
