The outside world is incredibly NOISY. And it seems like it’s only getting worse.
Social media, phone calls, Zoom meetings, jam-packed schedules, and children, friends, family members, and business associates all demand our attention. The noise starts early in the morning and doesn’t end until you go to bed.
Even then, there isn’t one of us who hasn’t been awakened in the middle of the night by a phone call or text for one reason or another.
It’s our new reality. And it isn’t always healthy. Living in a 24/7 world can undermine your sanity and make you feel weary, day after day.
That’s why it’s more important than ever to carve out time and find quiet spaces inside of you. You need to give yourself the GIFT of drowning out the outside noise by getting quiet inside.
The ocean is a great example of how this works.
On the surface, tides churn, waves rise up and crash on shore, boats, birds and other marine life combine to create chaos.
Granted, it’s a beautiful kind of chaos. Even so, there’s a lot going on above the surface.
But as soon as you duck under the waves and go deep, everything becomes QUIET. Life slows down. Tides sway and fish glide by. Life under the surface is PEACEFUL and TRANQUIL.
If you’ve ever gone scuba diving, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Think about places you can go, even if it’s just inside your mind, to RESTORE and REJUVENATE yourself.
I get quiet on the inside by going for a walk, praying, taking a drive, or just sitting by myself and enjoying sunsets every chance I get. Other times, when I can’t get away, I’ll daydream and let my mind drift, almost like taking a mini-vacation.
When you get quiet on the inside, you’re taking care of YOURSELF.
And you can’t take care of others until you learn to do this first.
