here, the presence, agency, and comfort of poc take priority over those of white people. as a bare minimum, whites (and in many ways, non-black poc) should listen more than they speak and carefully consider how much space they're taking up. white people, you are bystanders here. conduct yrselves as such. whites and non-black poc, don't use the n-word or AAVE. keep yourself and each other in check

instead of waiting for someone else to do it for you. if someone is making you feel uncomfortable or unsafe at 3M, please tell us and we will remove them from our space. the well-being of our attendees, especially those who are poc, is our highest priority. those who perpetuate oppression (racism, sexism, transmisogyny, etc.) at 3M will be held accountable and/or asked to leave. additionally, respect our home. 3M is a sober space, so please don't bring alcohol or drugs to events. if there are circumstances regarding our sober policy and your mental or physical health, please talk to us and we'll accommodate you. we ask that everyone pitch in to keep our house clean (!), secure, and enjoyable. in addition to handling issues ourselves, we–jasmin, kotone, and lucky–will also be relying on the participation of the community that gathers at 3M to make this place a good one. learn to support each other, call each other out and in, and find ways to be compassionate toward one another, even in small ways. we’ve just begun and are always learning. poc, your ideas and input are always welcome. we hope to see y'all soon. Snagged some cute stuff from our donations~ the stuff in bags and boxes by our zine library are all free & u can take as much as u want ! Feel free to browse during events and shows, theres clothes and shoes (mostly smalls and mediums, some large and xl), art supplies, and random knick knacks. 🐾

That being said, please dont drop off anything right now ! We have too many things and not enough space, and we are not and dont wanna become a destination for too many donations. If we do have space in the future we'll note it then :)

shout out to some of my fav local businesses:

Shakoor's Merchandise is an amazing black-owned family business that stocks tonssss of essential oils, bath products, incense, jewelry and clothes geared toward black and brown needs, owners are all super friendly and prices are good !

Jamerican Cuisine is a black-owned jamaican restaurant that serves tender and flavorful food, great deals for the amount of food u get !

King's Fish (viet-owned) sells a delicious deep-fried fish sandwich and fries combo for under $5, along w fresh fish and other fried seafood !

these are some of few remaining poc businesses in a very gentrified area (i mean, that new "upscale men's consignment shop" ? disgusting), it really does make a difference when u support them, even if u have to go out of ur way to do so.

white ppl, approach these businesses, owners, and employees with the utmost respect. white dollars in their pockets and white entitlement out of sight, ok?

we're going to start doing mini reviews of some of the zines in our library! remember, the library is open for yr perusal at all 3M events, or you can message us and come over at yr leisure.

today i'm reviewing 'ikebana,' by yumi sakugawa.

reading 'ikebana' feels like when yr eyes tear up but don't quite spill over. in it, a young japanese-american student performs a piece for her final. in remarkably few words and simple but eloquent illustration, sakugawa expresses alienation, longing, trauma, and the somehow peaceful isolation of letting yrself succumb. highly recommended for all you sad poc art kids out there, i see you. come read it sometime.

regarding our sober space policy: please do not bring recreational alcohol or drugs to 3M! if there are any circumstances regarding alcohol/drugs and your mental or physical health, please message us so that we can make accommodations.

regarding misgendering: remember that misgendering someone is never ok, and that you do not decide what is or is not misgendering to another person. ask for pronouns and be mindful of terms someone may not want to be referred to as, such as "you guys," "man," and "dude."
