Expecting moms, you’re going to want to read this…

When you are recovering from giving birth, you should be comfortable.The thought of added stress, responsibility, and discomfort a week or two after giving birth is super unpleasant. That's why I prioritize comfort for my clients. When a newborn photographer comes to your home, you don't have to worry about packing the diaper bag and loading the car. I bring everything to you. Did you know that your photoshoot includes way more than just photos?

Prepping your family for your session is a huge part of my job and I take it seriously. From locations, what to wear, how to prep your family both physically and mentally. I offer a lot of guides for you to read over to prep for your session!

If you want amazing photos I highly recommend reading them all, it will make all of the difference BUT if you only take a small amount of advice from me take this. I don't think I've ever taken a bad photo for someone who had a great attitude their entire session and who followed my style guide. Your attitude and your clothes make a HUGE difference in the outcome of your photos.

Trust me, I've been doing this for years!

You're pregnant and considering hiring a photographer to capture your little blessing...

You may have a few doubts so let me tell you why you should hire an in-home lifestyle newborn photographer!

The most important reason is because they will never be this little again. Children grow faster than weeds, before long they will be holding their head up, that adorable baby fat, sitting up, crawling and next thing you know they are a toddler. A photo is the best way to stop time and remember this precious season forever. One thing that you can never do is reverse time, but, you can look back at photos and reminisce on how tiny their toes were and their little peach fuzz.

Now I've convinced you to take the photos, but why should you hire a lifestyle newborn photographer? What does "lifestyle" even mean? Lifestyle simply means authentic, unposed photos. Hiring a lifestyle photographer means that not only will the photos be taken in the comfort of your home, but you will be holding your baby for most of the photos. I will also be able to capture a few portraits of your baby alone, wrapped or in an outfit I provide both). Lifestyle photos are so personal and intimate. Not only are we capturing your baby, surrounded by family but in the house they will be raised in.

Unpopular opinion: I prefer the sky that the sunset is creating more than the sunset!

Yes, sunsets are amazing, but have you ever turned around to see the beauty in the clouds that the sunset created? LOVE

Does your child have a birthday coming up? Celebrate with a milestone photoshoot!

There's only a short amount of time with those 5 little teeth, barely any hair, and wobbly steps, the best way to remember it is to capture it!

Outdoors, in-home or in studio it's time to capture your baby! These can be done during family photos or during a separate session time.

Every year I get asked if I offer extended family photos?

I do, and at no additional cost(which is rare)! They can get a little hectic but I love them SO much because capturing your whole family is so important! As long as everyone is patient we will capture some truly great moments!

I highly recommend booking the extended package so we have time to capture the whole family and the little details!

Are you pregnant and dreaming of newborn photos? I highly recommend booking your newborn session a few months in advance. My schedule can fill up so try to get on the calendar as soon as you can. Most clients book 2 weeks after their due date and reschedule if their baby arrives early or late. Rescheduling is allowed and even encouraged, we all know that theses things are hard to plan!

I often get asked: can parents and siblings be in newborn photos too?

Yes, of course! The more the merrier. A newborn session will include a mix of newborn portraits, family, parent, and sibling photos all with your new addition in the comfort of your home!

It's best to take your newborn photos within the first 3 weeks of birth. If you're booking before you give birth (which I highly recommend) book your session 2 weeks after your due date. If the baby is early or late, contact me and we can reschedule the session to an earlier date. You can book a session up to 6 months in advance.

Why do most people stop taking photos when their kids are 6+ years old?
Maybe you're worried that your kids won't be interested, or the session will go too long. Maybe you don't think it's worth your time or money.
I'm here to tell you to never stop taking photos. Capture every moment. A compliment I get more times than not is, "wow that was actually fun!" or "that went by way faster than I expected." I pride myself in making family photos both enjoyable and quick!
Don't let your worries stop you from booking those photos!

Unpopular opinion: your baby doesn’t have to be under 3 weeks old for newborn photos.

If you love those adorable swaddled photos then yes, they should be under 3 weeks old. BUT, if you would like strictly lifestyle family newborn photos, these can be taken at any age or time that you are comfortable with!

What would a lifestyle newborn session look like? Documenting your new family member being held and cuddled from afar, the majority of the session. Very little newborn portraits will happen in a lifestyle newborn session as I will focus more on the whole family but I will try my best to capture a few, unwrapped photos of your baby.

Are you due this December or January?

Welcoming a new baby during the holidays is no easy feat BUT I have good news for you... your prime time for maternity photos will be October!

30-32 weeks is when I suggest most moms schedule their maternity photos. It's important to have a nice round bump but also be comfortable!

Let them be little!

A client recently said to me "they are only this little for so long, and I want to capture it!" This could not be more true!

There's only a few short years where your kids are little, where every single things they do is adorable. Let's not make them sit still, let's not make them pose, let's not make them uncomfortable, let's make them HAPPY!

The BEST family session I've ever had the kids were CRAZY but the parents were HAPPY! Embrace the crazy, embrace the silly, play with them! They are only this little once.

This is your new baby, your family, you should not only be comfortable but also call the shots.

Not comfortable leaving the house with a newborn? I’ll come to you! Not comfortable with posed newborn portraits? We can skip them! Not comfortable letting your newborn out of sight? Please stay close! Not comfortable taking photos under 3 weeks old? Let’s wait and focus on lifestyle photos.

There is just something so beautiful and playful about a beach session!

Benefits of a beach session
- so much room to run and play
- even after bedtime, your children will love to be at the beach
- you don’t have to worry about what shoes to wear, just go barefoot!
- you can even splash around in the water if you like
- less bugs than a wooded location
- no two sunsets at the beach are the same

May-September is peak beach season in Michigan so remember to book your beach season this summer before the weather turns chilly again!
