Día De Los Mu***os at Hemisfair — formerly Mu***osfest — filled downtown San Antonio this weekend with music, food and memories.

The Day of the Dead holiday observed on Nov. 1 and 2 has traditionally been a quiet, personal family event, celebrated at home or at a local graveyard, communing with memories, and the spirits of loved ones who have died.

In the past decade or so though, as the nuanced cultural attributes of the Southwest have emerged and been captured by ever-present cameras, the observance of Día De Los Mu***os has grown exponentially.

In San Antonio, the city has fully embraced Day of the Dead. The event at Hemisfair has already become an autumn mainstay.

Thousands of people came together Saturday at Hemisfair for the first day of San Antonio's annual Mu***os Fest. The two-day gathering celebrates departed loved ones with live music, art, poetry readings, food, numerous homemade altars and much more.
