Our Story
About Live At The Pagoda:
Founded by local San Jose producers Thomas Aguilar of Universal Grammar (UG) and Michael Grammer of NewSense (NS), together they combined efforts to launch The Live At the Pagoda (LATP) music series, at the time their most daunting and exciting collabo to date. From October 2010 to November 2013, they formed a partnership with the hotel Fairmont San Jose to produce the Live at the Pagoda music series inside the former chinese restaurant known as the Pagoda that included an entry way located on the South First St. side of the hotel featuring two vibrant red doors that instantly established the speakeasy vibe the room possesed. By taking an under used space in one of the finest downtown San Jose establishments and having the vision to propose to the Fairmont what could be a venue for live music activation, henceforth the series was given a green light by the hotel management of the time to produce the series in a piloted fashion. After the first five events were hits that featured a diverse array of performances by emerging talents and a couple of established acts that included Electric Wire Hustle, Tortured Soul, Bilal, Zuzuka Poderosa and Little Dragon. We were then given full autonamy to produce the LATP music series ongoing until it came to an end at the beginnning of November, 2013 with an uncanny curation that participated in the breaking of many artists to the bay area music scene including Yuna, Kaytranada and Full Crate & Mar. The LATP series had the foruntate opportunity to provide San Jose patrons to a truly unique and unprecendented experience for live music presentation San Jose has not seen since and now stands as an innovative idea that has become an industry standard for many boutique hotels across the country incorporating music programming and venues in their grand designs of each launch. LATP went forward presenting world-renowned musicians and singers along with the afermentioned artists listed above as well as Mayer Hawthorne, Cody ChesnuTT, Robert Glasper Experiment, Hiatus Kaiyote, Adrian Younge, Ana Tijoux and world class DJ's like Kenny Dope, Rich Medina, and Sake One. In it’s time the Live at The Pagoda music series has led artists from across the globe in finding their way to the South Bay leaving an indelible mark on the minds of the performers and supporting patrons.
