安琪、心怡十多年前從火鳳畢業，而後每年都回來作打擊樂手。今年的挑戰最大，九章組曲，幾乎章章都有她們的活兒。第一章散板起，威武雄壯，晴空炸雷一般。我的預備拍就是個短氣口，每位樂手都得和指揮同呼吸。音樂會上，我閉著眼睛起拍，一個動作下去，驚雷炸響，全團都在一個點上，我知道：成了！大軍鑔，並非吊鈸，是最不容易打齊的樂器，但安琪絲毫不差。第二章又是散板起，黑雲壓城，陰風暗襲。最後的排練，顧不上跟心怡說，我隨後留了段語音，告訴她音樂所表現的氛圍。演出時，她的大鼓由極慢到極快、從至弱到至強，一句便托出了虎山之威。
Angela and Emily graduated from FYCO more than ten years ago, and since then, they have returned every year to play percussion. This year’s challenge is the greatest. Almost every movement has their parts. The first movement starts majestically and mightily, like thunder in a clear sky. My preparatory beat was just a half count, and every musician had to breathe in sync with the conductor. At the moment my baton moved, the orchestra erupted thunderously, precisely at one point. I knew instantly that we would succeed! The grand military cymbals, not just an ordinary suspended cymbal, are the most difficult to synchronize, but Angela played them exactly. At the beginning of the second movement, the grand Chinese drum—Da Tanggu—evokes the image of dark clouds looming over the city, with a sinister wind approaching from afar. During the final rehearsal, I didn’t get a chance to talk to Emily, but I left a voice message afterward, describing the atmosphere the music should convey. In the concert, her drum went from slow to fast, from very soft to extremely loud, in just one phrase, creating the image of a mighty tiger descending from the mountain.

Eddie was the last teaching artist to join our rehearsals. He only practiced three times. Although he had been teaching the Dizi students this "Tiger Mountain" Peking Opera suite since last September, it was totally different for him to play in the orchestra. I couldn't imagine how he practiced all the 9 movements in three weeks. In such a short period, most might be only able to roughly listen to the Peking Opera gongs and drums, and watch the drummer-conductor gestures. As a doctor of ethnomusicology, Eddie is fully capable of playing in the unique orchestra! Fenglin was the first teaching artist to join the rehearsal. When coming in the first time and hearing students practice, he told me: "You can't go wrong!" He was the only Sheng student admitted to a conservatory in Beijing in 1981, and also performed in Chinese National Opera house for 15 years. Our concert would be held on May 11, yet we merely started rehearsing one of the most difficult movements in March. Even I myself was mumbling, worried that I wouldn't be able to make it in time. He waved his hand: "No problem!" Each time after our rehearsal, he was smiling: "This thing is so addictive!"
家豪是最後一位參加排練的老師，只排了三次。儘管去年九月以來，他一直在給笛子同學們上《威虎山》京劇組曲的課，但那畢竟是演示，跟真刀真槍上戰場完全兩回事。我實在想像不出，他是如何在三個星期內把全部九章樂曲練好的。這麼短時間，能聽得清鑼鼓點兒、看得明板鼓手勢，就已經了不起了，真不愧是民族音樂學博士！風林是第一位參加排練的老師，頭回來，一聽同學們的動靜，就跟我說：“放心吧！錯不了！”他是八一年進京的唯一笙狀元，又在中國歌劇舞劇院工作了十五年。我們五月十一演出，三月才開始排最難的那一大段【西皮】，連我自己都犯嘀咕了，擔心來不及。風林一擺手：“沒問題！”十一次排練，回回結束他都笑呵呵地：“這玩意兒，上癮哪！”

Emily and John are teaching the Liuqin and Erhu in Aimusic. They are excellent soloists. Emily gave a recital at the National Concert Hall in Taipei a year ago; John flys back to Taiwan every performance season to present a concerto with symphony orchestras. In the "Tiger Mountain" Peking Opera suite, not only did they play the Yueqin and Jinghu, but also served as the principal and concertmaster. Thanks to their leadership, the strings and plucked instruments were completely capable of playing such a challenging suite.
真難為林意嵐老師和江嘉瑞老師了！兩位本是教柳琴、二胡的，而且是非常出色的演奏家，林老師前年在台北國家音樂廳開獨奏會，江老師每個演出季都要飛回台灣，與交響樂團合作協奏曲，為了《威虎山》京劇組曲，生被我攢來彈月琴、拉京胡，還要當聲部長、樂團首席。也虧得他們的帶領，彈撥和絃樂聲部玩出了當年板兒團也沒弄好的部份。“扎多 乙”起【西皮原板】是京劇傳統，但當年的西樂大爺們怎麼也起不來，愣改成了“扎多 大”，貽笑大方。

本屆藝術節的壓軸節目是《絃索十三套》中的大曲《將軍令》，由唯一的中國音樂金鐘獎三絃專業第一名、天津音樂學院副教授高藝真領奏。高師從三絃藝術家、教育家、古典音樂活態傳承之開拓者、中央音樂學院博士生導師談龍建教授十四年。談以十七年時間把清道光皇帝的五世孫、末代皇帝堂侄愛新覺羅·毓峘小時候學到的、活在手上的絃索套曲學習、記錄、整理成樂譜。毓峘先生八歲由宮中太監羅德福啟蒙、專習三絃，後又受業於恭王府上“門先”張松山。

九、一八一四年，由清代蒙古族文人榮齋編纂的《絃索備考》（又名《絃索十三套》）手抄本。

The American Football Championship is the most lively event in the US. No one dares to compete with it, but Cupertino Library made FYCO at the same time. Many parents thought: Nobody comes this time. Neverthless, it was a full house again today. 30 years ago, many people called me "A super bowl killer" because I dared to give a recital on the day of the final and it was sold out. In fact, it’s not that I was brave, but simply knew nothing.
美式足球冠軍賽是全美最熱鬧的活動，沒人敢跟它撞期，但庫坡緹偌圖書館偏偏把火鳳排在同一時間。不少家長以為：這下完了，肯定沒人來！誰知鑼鼓還沒響，觀眾先坐了大半；等鑼鼓敲過，又是一場爆滿。猛然間想起，三十年前好多人都說我是「超級盃殺手」，因為我敢在決賽那天開獨奏會，還玩了個滿座。其實不是我膽大，而是根本不知道不懂。

Yesterday was the beginning of spring. Hundreds of Sunnyvale residents gathered at the public library to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The Community Hall was filled to capacity in an instant, and there was no space for standing. The librarians had to close the door and keep almost half of the audience out of the Hall. U.S. House of Representatives Representative Khanna, Sunnyvale Mayor Klein and other political figures came to congratulate the Library for its excellent dedication to the community.
昨日立春，豪雨兆豐年。數百桑尼維爾居民冒著風雨齊聚公共圖書館，慶祝新春。火鳳樂手們剛學的一點京劇鑼鼓初次亮相，就被全體觀眾團團喝采，並緊跟著擠進社區活動廳，等著看同學們的表演。活動廳瞬間爆滿，連站位都沒有，圖書館員們不得不關起大門，把幾近一半的觀眾擋在廳外。這是火鳳三十年來最熱鬧的一次社區演出，美國眾議院議員卡納、桑尼維爾市長克萊因等政要前來祝賀，恭喜大家的龍年歡慶。

高藝真
天津音樂學院三絃專業副教授；加州大學聖地牙哥分校訪問學者；中國民族管絃樂學會理事及三絃專業委員會副秘書長。中央音樂學院三絃與音樂學雙專業學士、三絃碩士；自二000年考入該院附中至二0一四年研究生畢業，始終受教於三絃藝術家、教育家、古典音樂活態傳承之開拓者、博士生導師談龍建教授。後又拜師於曲藝三絃藝術家、當代「三絃聖手」韓寶利先生和音樂學家、中央音樂學院博士生導師張伯瑜教授。

曾獲第十屆中國金鐘獎三絃第一名，也是有史以來此最權威音樂比賽獨一無二的三絃專業最高獲獎者；文化部中外文化交流中心彈撥樂比賽演奏家組金獎；被聘為《華樂大典·三絃卷》編委；《新編中國民族管弦樂學會社會藝術考級系列教程·三絃》編委；國家社科基金藝術學重大項目「新中國器樂樂種傳承發展研究」課題組專家。於《天津音樂學院學報》、《北方音樂》等學術期刊發表多篇學術論文。主持「天津市高等學校人文社會科學研究項目」及多項「天津音樂學院科研項目」；並曾舉辦「絃索遺韻—愛新覺羅·毓峘三絃傳譜」系列傳承音樂會、「竹溪辭」、「絃之旅」、「絃舞藝幻」等獨奏音樂會及講座。

作為一位活態傳統音樂的優秀繼承人，高的演奏風格迥異於世。聽其《普庵咒》、《月兒高》等文曲，心靜如水、氣定神閒，感佛性而生悟、念星空而脫凡；聽其《將軍令》、《海青》等武曲，心潮如浪、氣屏神凝，尊天威而尚德、循道法而適變。高藝真的音韻節律變化非常豐富，徐而不散、疾而不亂，柔曼而不贅、剛勁而不迫，分寸得度、縱合自然。她手不出磨耳之音、汙心之樂，身不帶浮華之風、造作之形，是當代國樂演奏家中不可多得的典範。
