The wedding cake is served to the guests, the bride's cake, is served to the bridesmaids, and the groom's cake is served to the groomsmen.

The 1957 recipe below is called Bride's cake, but seems more like a wedding cake.

The bride's cake was usually a simple pound cake with white icing. Wedding cake was originally a luxury item, and a sign of celebration and social status. The bigger the cake, the higher the social standing.
