Hello, I am Katie Korobkin, Chef/Owner of Sweet Potato Catering.
My love of food started at a very early age. I was born in New York City, surrounded by some of the best cheese shops, butchers, and bakeries in the country. Great quality ingredients were all around me. I believe that excellent ingredients are key to creating delicious recipes, but you also need skill and a basic understanding of culinary techniques and flavor profiles. I was first exposed to this at home; both my parents are, and were, greats cooks. My dad in particular always loved cooking and eating, but more importantly, he loved to share it all with me. He would pull a chair up to the counter and let me get my hands messy every chance he had. Cooking can be a very dangerous activity, but my dad trusted me to focus on what I was doing, listen to his direction and follow his lead. He put a steak knife in my hand when I was only three years old, and I havenโt wanted to put a knife down since. My dad passed away in 2002 when I was eleven years old, but I still hold the memories of cooking with him near to my heart. He used to call me his little sweet potato, hence the inspiration for the name of my company.
In 2013, after graduating with a degree in culinary arts, she moved to the mountains of Colorado to begin her career at award winning Devilโs Thumb Ranch Resort and Spa, where she was introduced to mountain American cuisine. Chef Katie then moved on to Montage Deer Valley, a 5 star, 5 diamond property in Park City, Utah. It was here that she honed her skills and learned the importance of attention to detail, presentation and elevated guest experience; the Montage way. Her time working under Executive Chef Shawn Armstrong and Executive Sous Chef Christian Ojeda was invaluable, but it was important for her to experience different environments and aspects of the industry to prepare to venturing out on her own. This lead her to the decision to work for Reefโs, a boutique Mediterranean restaurant in Park City, which provided her with the experience of sous chef, lead server and food truck manager. All of the training and experience Chef Katie has acquired over the last 10 years has lead her back to Sandusky, Ohio to create Sweet Potato Catering.
