Here are some of my thoughts on the amazing Ursa Mini Pro 12K along with a video and a couple of Blackmagic RAW files could download and grade.

I tweaked some of the stills here. The sunset one in the middle has Blackmagic Gen 5 Extended Video as a base.

I did a lens test with on the Sigma Art 40 on the Ursa Mini Pro 12K a while back.

To me the lens is sharp—even when wide open—and has a very modern/clean aesthetic which I’m a big fan of. The pairing produces a very smooth, detailed but “precise” image.

It’s built well, extremely easy to setup, and use.

I’m a big fan of the Ursa Mini Pro 12K’s anamorphic mode. There’s a massive amount of organic—yet smooth—detail that the sensor captures that pairs really well with the compression/distortion that anamorphic lenses bring.

The Nikon 85mm non-ai is a solid pairing though I’d like to try something like the Sigma Art 85mm. I find that the Art series pairs well with the ultra star since the Art’s are incredibly sharp which allow you to open up more than other pairings.

Using $1 store shower curtains to lightly diffuse the window alongside controlling via the 4x4. Some negative fill via 2x 36” x 36” floppies. There’s a Titan Tube in the background.

An anamorphic still from the Ursa Mini Pro 12K. I’m loving the possibilities that the UMP12K opens up in terms of anamorphic options ~50MP anamorphic!

One the biggest surprises is how the sensor produces a larger format look/field that marries well with anamorphic.

Bought this for a good deal to play around with. The other iterations that I’ll find (1.8, D, G and etc) and which are better wide open (which is something that I’m a big fan of) but this should be handy for now!
Small size should be great for Rapido Anamorphic setup also!

7 years ago today, we received the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 2.5K EF (among with the camera handles).

I remember waking up right before my first college class of the day and seeing all the NAB coverage sites talking about it. Theres a small story on how we got this camera that I’ll elaborate on one of these days. Fun times.

Thom came over since we were all heading over before the premiere and I decided to take a shot with the Kiev 16 20mm lens. We’ve had this lens and the adapter for a few years now after buying as part of a package.

The lighting is mostly natural, with the main source being sunlight coming from the window. There’s some fill with an titan tube + baby bee on the right side of his face. I was going to bounce some but couldn’t find the bounce board in time. The Pocket 4K and these lenses pair very well. They give off a vintage-y old school vibe. You’ll notice that 2.6K is still very detailed but not overtly sharp. The room was darker than it looks hence why the iso was set at 2500.

The iPhone 11Pro Max is performing really well as a BTS and location scout camera. Simple and its always there! (along with great🔋).

Helped out on a film and brought the baby bee + titan tube to test out as an accent light.

A single titan works well with the Pocket 4K, given you can go to that second iso set if needed.

Behind the scenes for a location and concept work with the wonderful . We were experimenting with Rip Stop Nylon bought from Joanne’s to mimic 1/2 grid cloth.
In addition, this scene was shot with both anamorphic and spherical with the same setup but the BTS photo shows anamorphic but it’s spherical. Thanks to for allowing us to film at this location!

Stills from Kinetic shot sometime in early and mid 2018. .raine.campbell and were awesome to work with during these two days. Thanks to for allowing us to film at this location!

Both of these were shot with the Ursa Mini Pro G1 and the awesome Letus Anamorphot 1.33X adapter. It’s interesting looking back and grading footage. I wonder if object removal could work for the 🧯😂.
