A julebord (“Yule table”) is a traditional Scandinavian Christmas celebration that gathers family, friends and community together in the winter gloom. It’s a bright, soothing light in the long dark season and an ancient tradition that in Norway today is sometimes practiced far into the new year. We hope you’re able to join us on December 14th for our yearly julebord, which will feature live music, julegraut (rice porridge with a almond hidden inside a lucky bowl - find the almond, win a prize!), a great selection of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and of course, Christmas songs and dancing around the Christmas tree. Everyone is welcome! Vegetarian meals available!
Get your tickets at: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/6470843, and make sure to note who you would like to sit with and if you have any allergies.
And be sure to follow our Instagram account for the latest updates.
Tusen takk!

Wednesday, August 21, at 1:30--group tour : It's another special cultural trip to a fantastic exhibition on the Titanic with Gwen Weinert. Special group rates for more than 6 people of around $30. Exhibit in the historic Maritime Building near downtown, 906 Alaskan Way, Seattle 98104. Duration: approx. 1 hour and 30 minutes. All ages are welcome! Wheelchair accessible. The Exhibition is far more than a display of historic items: it is a unique narrative experience, a tale of the people aboard history’s most legendary ship on its maiden and final journey. Travel back to 1912 through photographs, handwritten letters, wayward keepsakes, and other personal belongings telling countless stories about fates and heroic deeds on board. As you listen to survivor testimonies on your audio guide, you will have a chance to observe recreated interiors of natural size, witnessing the stark contrast between a lavish first-class suite and a humble third-class cabin. Georgetown Steam Plant Tour

There will be a cultural tour on Saturday, May 11 to the historic landmark Steam Plant which was completed in 1916 and was a state-of-the-art power generator for electricity to serve the trams of Seattle. Everything in the plant is still intact.
The building itself is an architectural treasure, built of concrete in neoclassical style.
Leif Erikson Lodge is booked for a 1 P:M. Tour, and we will meet at the Lodge at 11:30 a:m to carpool down. We may go out for a beer afterwards!
Please message us if you plan to join us.

The History of 'APRONS'
I don't think our kids know what an apron is. The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.
It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and ...on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.
From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.
When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids..
And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms.
Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.
Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.
From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.
In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.
When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.
When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.
It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.
Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons.
REMEMBER:
Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.
They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.
I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love...❤

The space also serves as an event hall for public rentals, weddings, receptions, memorials, practice space for dance groups and choruses, community events, meetings, classes, genealogy, and more. Finished in 1986, the building is home to many local Norwegian organizations. Over 12,000 hours of volunteer labor were involved with constructing our building.
