No. 1 seed Casey Fowles is off to a quick 1-up lead over No.2 seed Zach Johnson in this afternoon’s championship match of the Utah PGA Match Play Championship at Hubbard Memorial Golf Course at Hill Air Force Base.

Fowles defeated Matt Baird 3 & 2 while Johnson beat Andrew Davis 6 & 5 in this morning’s semifinal matches.

Kate Walker cards a (-5) 139 on rounds of 71-68 to claim medalist honors at in the Utah Junior PGA Championship. With the win Walker receives a spot in the national at Congressional CC later this summer.

After two extra holes, Emma Lillywhite earned the second qualifying spot with a par on the par 5 9th hole of the Silver Course. Lillywhite and Aadyn Long finished T2 at (-2) 142.

BYU commit Lincoln Markham shot (-14) 65-65 on the Silver Course at Monday-Tuesday to earn medalist honors today in Utah’s Junior PGA Championship to qualify for the 48th held July 30-Aug 2 at Congressional CC in Bethesda, MD.

Also qualifying is Brock Porter, a shot back at (-13) 131 on rounds of 66-65.

In the first Junior Major of the year, .moody35 shot (-3) 73-68 - 141 in the Junior Major at Glenmoor GC to win the Boys 16-18 division. Carding a 85-79 - 164 won the Girls 16-18 division. The winners qualified for Utah’s AJGA event later this summer. Due to a conflict for Avery, Madalyn Hadley T2 (+23) 167 accepted the Girls exemption. Led by medalist Aadyn Long, Lone Peak lapped the 6A field, defeating runner-up Fremont by 74 strokes, shooting a two-day total of 594 at Soldier Hollow GC. Long finished with a 69 Tuesday and her (-2) 142 was five shots better than teammates Adley Nelson and another two over Saydie Wagner. Repeat medalist Ashley Lam (-4) 71-69 - 140 led her Skyline High team to the 5A State title over the last two days at Soldier Hollow GC. Skyline defeated runner-up Timpview by 24-strokes. Salem Hills, Bonneville and Spanish Fork round out the top 5.

Timpview's Emma Lillywhite finished 2-strokes behind Lam.

The Utah town with no golf course is now home to a state championship girls golf team.

Manila High captured the 1A state championship at Lakeside Golf Course in Bountiful on Wednesday as it shot a 392 to edge Monticello by 16 strokes for its first state title in school history.

The Mustangs placed four golfers in the top 10, including medalist Abby Schofield, who won it as a sophomore and finished second a year ago.

But the team title is what Schofield was most pleased with on Wednesday.

Utah’s Secretary’s Cup team, playing out of St. George City’s Southgate GC, enjoys today’s opening ceremony at Churchill Downs. The Secretary’s Cup will be hosted on May 13, at The University of Louisville Golf Club in Kentucky.
