So grateful for some great opportunities this summer to connect with dancers/instructors I really admire. Many years ago I was inspired by David Stein of Majesty in Motion Dance Company and was recently able to attend a weekend workshop with him and his wife Jennifer. It's been a long time and it was a real treat to see them again! This last weekend I was able to attend another workshop with an absolute master of musicality, Terry SalsAlianza. Wow, that guy is unreal!

Normally the studio classes for the 2023-2024 season would begin in October. However I’ll be traveling to train with my coaches (Salsamania) through the end of October and pushing the next studio class session back to November. We’ll start the season with the Salsa 1 academic series. This last 2022-2023 season I taught a much higher number of beginner series than normal, this season I will be reducing that number, possibly to only this session beginning in November allowing me to focus on more of my other classes. So if you’re interested in joining, please be sure to attend this session in November (the Salsa 1 academic series is the prerequisite to all other classes I teach).

In the meantime I’ve partnered up with Swing Dig for a Salsa & West Coast Swing cross-over event Friday 29Sept23. I’ll be teaching a beginner Salsa lesson (with some higher level material if the group is ready) along side of Eric Allen teaching a WCS class. I’ll be DJ’n with Nic Crowner for a mixed social after the classes.

If you missed the 2023 Tri-Cities Salsa Congress this last weekend, you missed a stellar event! Shannon Urza and Emerald Laija have created something truly special and somehow have managed to make it better every year, with the 10 year anniversary this year topping them all. I've been fortunate to attend every year (missed one), first as an attendee and for the last 3 years as a DJ and instructor, and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at every one! Their event is always personable and well-planned, with a great talent line-up and a wonderful down-to-earth feeling of community. I am sore, tired, even a little sick from a 4 day frantic pace, but so happy and grateful! A big thank you to everyone who attended to make this event the success it was, and thanks to Francisco Martinez for saving my rear with the Congas! Also a big thank you to the pros who lent their talent and professionalism and perfectly nailed the goals of the event: Ace, Duane, Max, Tanya, Oscar, Joseal, and Charlayne, and to the DJ's that I got to rub shoulders with as we moved everyone through that BKS musical journey: Armando, Jose, Julio, Mary, Mario, Oscar, and Sergio.

Student highlight:
Louisa has been taking private lessons over the summer at my studio and attended her first Salsa Congress this last weekend (2023 Tri-Cities Salsa Congress). I'm so happy she came and am very proud of her progress, heard many great compliments to her technique for such a new Salsera! Here she is gettin' down with a Salsa pro - Max Solorzano from Houston.

A little outside the Salsa realm, but still important. I'm very sad to hear of the passing of Buddy Schwimmer, a professional swing dancer and the creator of Night Club 2 Step. Buddy was a class act with an infectious joy! He is survived by his two children Benji and Lacie, also amazing dancers - our hearts are with your family. We will miss you Buddy!
